    Hi guys,

Don't want to take too much of your time. I just received my sister's M40 yesterday and will get my M40 (higher end model) today. So did the usual dead pixel check, usb drive check, reader check,etc....Anyways, when i came to testing the combo drive, i found the drive VERY noisy. Is there any way i can slow down speed or at least make it less noisy. I heard some older Toshiba models can slow it down to an 'acoustic' form so it reads slower and is therefore less noisy. I was just wondering if u guys could shed some light on this...Thanks.

I don't know if there's software that can slow down an optical drive. I have seen s/w for your HDD which allows you to modify the acoustics.

For optical drives, a few things can cause the drive to be very noisy:

    1. An uneven disc, when rotating, will shake and therefore cause a lot of noise
    2. The type of disc being used. A CD will rotate a lot faster than a DVD and will therefore cause more noise
    3. The drive can just be defective or it's just the way the drive is (might depend on manufacturer). You can get the drive swapped and see if it helps.
