Anyone know if there is a way to connect a 5.1 speaker setup (logitech) to the X205?

My old Asus enables this using the mic and line out but it does not seem to work on the X205. final resort is to get an external USB sound card.

Your headphone jack works also as S/PDIF out which will allow you to digitally connect your laptop to your speakers. You will probably have to enable it in your sound options of course.
