thanks budy -
Crysis runs great on my X205. Just make sure you have the latest nvidia drivers installed from laptopvideo2go. (Get the 169.09's they work great). After overclocking my x205 I can run crysis with shaders and water on high everything else on medium with 25+ FPS.
-
Yep, install driver 169.09 and you will be styling, it is made just for Crysis, also fixs Bioshock which Iam running now with vista, high quality settings, and DX10 running and it works perfectly, Iam at level 5 (8 levels) what a beautiful and fun game!! Using 1280 x 800 resolution which I think is the perfect setting. I will install Crysis tonight

Also, I'd recommend running the game in DirectX 9 mode because DirectX 10 decreases performance and visual quality because you have to lower the settings. DirectX 10 is a bunch of hype basically, it has amounted to nothing so far. To do that, right-click the Crysis shortcut on your desktop, click properties, then at the end of the target line, put a space after the last quote and put -dx9 in.
-
Also microsoft hotfix is required for 32 bit vista, its called Virtual address Space hotfix. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105 This should have come up on game install, but could be easily missed.

Edit: laptopvideo2go.com comes back as empty webpage. I see Jesse mentions he is running 169.12 for Vista drivers. Is there a way to make those work on my laptop? -
As for overclocking, I use Rivatuner, but you can also use the Ntune I believe it's called from nvidia. Luckily the newer drivers do enable overclocking, so you can get a bit more performance from that, but it's nothing huge, and isn't realy needed.... but, none the less, I still play with the settings
So, hopefully you'll be good to go when laptopvideo2go comes back up -
I"ve been looking at Rivatuner, but it shows no support for Vista. Anyone using this with vista?
-
Yeah, running Version 2.05, but i believe 2.06 is the latest.... I haven't had any problems at all, works great, and is good for overclocking and monitoring your temps and speeds, etc. Also, download the Core2 Duo plugin and it'll monitor your CPU temps as well for both cores... good program
-
I installed it anyways and seems to be working, except for the message at startup,"may not be compatible update to latest version, driver not tested" but I do have version 2.06. I think it will work though. Vista is a pain, still can not get my Zune app to work with it.
-
Yeah, that's just a driver warning, as the drivers you are using are newer than what was tested with Rivatuner... has nothing at all to do with Vista, as any new driver would give you the same warning.
What problems you having with the Zune software? The new software they just released a few weeks ago has worked great, i've been impressed with the face lift, and so far haven't had any problems.... you using the latest release? It looks totally different than the previous version -

SLI owners - note that Crysis does not yet support SLI, so you are only getting the performance of one of your cards. For the record my SLi3 runs Crysis like crap too - 1280x800 medium, and it still skips and stutters all over the place. Vista certainly does not help matters.

Hey Chaz, I'm still not certain that it doesn't to some extent... as there is a quite noticeable difference in SLI enabled verse disable... I get around 15FPS with my current settings at 1440x900 running a single GPU, SLI disabled... it's a bit slower than I'd like, but doesn't have any real stutters or skips, just not a great framerate.... BUT, with SLI enabled, I get about 30 or so, and on most levels it's totally smooth, but for some reason certain levels seem to make it "stutter" and seem slower than the nonSLI mode, faster FPS, but doesn't seem to be as smooth... but, for the majority of what I've played, SLI enabled does increase performance, the indicators are working and show that it atleast thinks it's in SLI mode, and using Nhancer it has it's own profile for Crysis using AFR3. Still confused on this. Over on SLIzone they have quite a few topics about this, and some benchmarks do show an improvement using SLI verse one card... seems to increase performance BUT cause a wierd stutter at times, which basicly is worse than a lower but smoother frame rate.
So, seems to me atleast that SLI does work, just not that well on the whole. Example, on the level where you have to blow up the ship in the harbor, it seems to be more playable on non SLI mode, but slower framerates.... but for the rest of the levels I've gotten to at this point, which is everything before it and the tank mission after it, using SLI does increase my frames per second very nicely, up into the 30's, and runs smooth and enjoyable.... wierd, I know, and definately does need optimizing or fixing, but it does work and help to some extent.
Sorry for the long post, but been trying and testing with this for the last couple weeks, waiting for a patch to see if it makes any difference...
Great game though, very impressed thus far. -
Crysis does support SLI. The early SP demo and MP beta did not, which is apparently common with pre-release demos and betas. Nvidia said the game would be patched to support SLI by the time it was released, and lots of folks on Nvidia's SLIZone forums are discussing the performance differences with SLI enabled. That combined with be77solo's experience would seem to confirm that it does in fact support SLI now.

I'm sittin at work so don't have the settings in front of me, but trying to remember the screen settings page, I know textures were high, post process was high (I love the effects too much to change this!), physis are high, sound is high, shaders are medium, objects are medium, and can't remember the rest but i know there were some more mediums... I'll look at em when I get back home later. This is running 1440x900, but I've also messed around with 1280x800 as well, and on some levels it helps, but on others it's not really any different. Even for grins tried 800x600 when i was in single gpu mode, and it really didn't make much difference, atleast with the settings I was using.
I did enable multigpu mode in the settings file on startup, don't know if it helps or not, but I read somewhere to try that if you use SLI.... it's in several of the tweak guides. Also set the priority to high in windows, don't know if that matters either, but it was recommended as well to try.
That along with a good defrag, and it does seem to run pretty decent, and hopefully a soon to be released patch will only help. -
Medium should not be causing as many problems as it is. It's not THAT graphically complex a game at those settings. -
I just got my Toshiba X205 today and I have to tell you guys it is a big disappointment so far the Crysis just won't run on it. Settings are in Medium 1024x768 and everything is slow i may get about 10fps !!!!
Funny thing is that on my old Gateway 7510GX with AMD 3700+ 2,4 ghz 2x1024 DDR400 and ATI X600 128mb runs better (in low )settings then my new Toshiba !?
What can i do about that ? If i upgrade the CPU to T7700 ? which driver i should use ?
Thanks

Which X205 you got Belca? And what drivers you running?

hi all,
how do i get to the overclocking options on the toshiba x205? this is driving me mad! i've installed the 169.12 vista 32 drivers, but there's no overclocking options in the nvidia control panel? what do i have to do?
fyi, here's the nv system info stuff:

thanks to anyone willing to help in advance -
You need to either install a 3rd party program like Rivatuner (my reccomendation, as it's a great little program), or get the Nvidia program that I believe is called Ntune, which adds a whole lot more options to the Control panel. Either one will work. Google Rivatuner and you'll find it, 2.06 is the latest, or Ntune should be found on the nvidia website.... Good luck!
-
>.> It has to be the drivers I overclocked a t61p to 8700m speeds and was able to play on medium settings no problem. A week after I did that and a new driver release came out the game started almost freezing from time to time, but still frames never dropped below 24.

Referring to some earlier comments in here - you guys are right that Crysis DOES support multi-GPU setups but I needed to set it like that. I couldn't bring down the command console in the game by pressing the ~ key so I just added a line to the shortcut. My shortcut looks like this:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis\Bin32\Crysis.exe" -dx9 +r_multiGPU[1]
Enabling SLI gave me a 60 - 70% performance increase, turned an unplayable game into a playable one. -
Sorry for the delay had some trouble with the net ....
I got the X 205 9349 and the driver is 169.09 other games runs great like the NFS Pro Street and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ..
Thnx -
I'd say just try just setting everything to medium at 1280x800 or 1440x900, and go from there.... should be a decent baseline for you, and can add or remove settings from there to get the performance you're after. I'm also playing with some modyfied config files from the Crysis forum, which supposedly enable higher end settings, without quite the performance hit. Still tinkering with that though, but you should be able to get acceptable results. It is definately the most demanding software I've tried thus far.
Not sure how the single 8700 will compare to the SLI 8600 in mine, but you should be able to play it totally acceptable, as even mine when I try using a single gpu is decent, and you'll be faster than that. Definately is a game that benefits from some tweaking though with the settings. -
Also, just ran across some updated 169.13 drivers, which specifically mention increased SLI Crysis performance, and are to be used with the upcoming patch.... so, hopefully we'll get noticealbly better performance soon! From some other forums, most are reporting good results and increases across the board. is noted to only use them with the new crysis patch, which hasn't been released yet.

Thanks for all the info. I have done some more research for drivers and tweaking and now i got a pretty good result in High resolution but the AA hast to be off :-(
by the way my 8700GT default clock is 625/1350/700 according to Riva tuner isn't the Shader clock suppose to be 1250 by default settings ? I haven't tried Overclocking the card yet the temperature goes up to 60C if I start playing Games otherwise just stays 45-48C. What is the mex temperature for the card not to burn it ?
Thanks again for all the info and help .... -

If you put the AA to 1x it should not affect performance, and it will help with all the foliage (leaves, etc) - it will make them sharper and more defined. Adds a lot to the visuals IMO. Add this to your Crysis shortcut command line: +r_UseEdgeAA 1

Hey Belca,
Those temps sound great.... mine idles at 63C or so, and when running heats up into the 80sC, and when overclocking and testing it's gotten into the lower 90'sC. This with an SLI though, which has 2 GPU's stacked instead of one though, so that's where the heat's coming from
