I bought a Toshiba M100 this week (on 3/15) when the notebook was 25% off. My order status is "credit card approval pending". Does anyone have anything different? Just trying to figure out when this laptop will arrive  :toshiba:

    Thanks!

I ordered one on March 5 and it was shipped on Fri. the 17th. Tracked it and it is in San Antonio, so it should be here tomorrow or Tues. :D

It took 5 days to process the credit card.

I ordered the m100 on thurs 3/16 w/ debit card. My order status says "order being processed". The sales person said 8-10 days to build and then 3 days to ship. Estimated arrival around 3/30. I can't wait to get it. I check my order status several times a day hoping to see "shipped". That 25% of sale was great.

I recieved it yesterday morning. It was shipped Fri. afternoon.

My initial impressions are very good. DISCLAIMER: I am truly a novice at computers and this is my 1st laptop. Hopefully, it will help me increase my knowledge.

The screen is very colorful, like the other TruBrites, and the construction appears solid. The keyboard seems comfortable, as I have several hours cleaning and messing around. Thankfully, it really doesn't come bundled with a lot of useless programs. One nice thing, to me anyway, was it comes with a more detailed electronic M100 guide. My desktop PC did not.

Once the initial startup and registration, the load time for WinXP seems quick, comparable to my desktop PC. It would be nice if the HD was a little quicker.
I watched a little bit of Underworld on WinDVD, and it looked good. Oh yeah, the HK speakers, I think, sound pretty good--for a laptop.

Right out of the box, with a full charge, factory settings, and no cleanup, I ran it to 4% battery and it was around 2:45 +-. I wasn't paying close attention to the time, but will clean, adjust settings and specifically watch the time. WiFi was switched off.

I didn't realize it had fingerprint security and a remote control for the media player, nice suprises. I hope to get a FPS for entertainment and a Video/Pic editing program to learn while on the road for work.(Sony Vegas/dvd I think) Mainly, I purchased this to use on down time on the road, editing kids vid/pics and internet, so that I won't have to be on the pc on days off as much.

The indepth reviews from members are a little above my skill level, so I hope this helps. I can try to answer any ?s. I did A LOT of research, stressed about the choice, and narrowed it down to the M100, W3j, and 12" PB. With the 25% off sale, I couldn't pass it up. Watch for it, I've seen it again since I ordered mine.

I am pretty happy with the purchase, so far for $1360+tax.
1.83 CDou, 14" w/ TruBrite,80g HD, 1 gig, ML DVD, ATI X1400 128m, Peacock Blue lid, Harmon Kardon speakers.

Great review! This is just what im looking for!! A Toshiba M100 notebook review. I been waiting for a review of this impressive notebook but there seems to be none. Im planning to buy this notebook whenever they have that 25 percent off sale. It looks like an amazing notebook with a lot of great features like the harmon/kardon speakers and a fingerprint reader (which is unique and makes this notebook even more wonderful). Now that you have reviewed this notebook, im planning to get one soon, narrowing my choices down from the dell e1505 to toshiba m100 and right now im leaning towards the toshiba m100. That was a nice review and hope you provide even more in-depth reviews about this notebook in the future. Thanks!

great review, but the fact that ur a novice is a bit unsettling, not that i have anything against novices.

That's why my comments are pretty generic. I have been using a desktops for years and researched my purchases, but many reviews go beyond my technical ability to perform.

I have never used performance measuring apps like 3dmark, hence just some comments on initial basic impressions.

Hey there - congrats. Here's a few questions:

-is the 2:45 battery time with the 6 cell battery? Was that with just plain old aps running, or with DVD watching as well?

-How's the viewing angle on the screen for movie watching?

-can you comment on the Toshiba Media Express Media PLayer? I mean, is it like the HP's Quickplay that you can listen to music and watch movies without booting to Windows?

-did they send you any recovery discs?

    Thanks,

I haven't had much time to play with the M100, my #257 of 433 truck was rearended. Dealing with their insurance is madning.

    RockyM

That Bat time is the approx. time for the 1st charge and rundown. It was with all apps, as config from Tosh, with about 20min of DVD to check it out. Also, I was messing around with some of the trials and setting up some security. After I set things up for me, I will do a full rundown to have a good time figure.

The screen colors are vibrant like most of the TruBrites, but there is good glare with the glossy screen at the wrong angles/light. I need to throw in something other than Underworld, it's a pretty dark movie. Wait..........

Well, I just tried the Media Center, way cool, no Win booting. Just hit the movie button, set the language and keyboard, then enter to play. There is an external volume dial and messed with the Functions keys to adjust brightness, while the more colorful Finding Nemo DVD was playing. I would say the viewing angles are good and adjusting helped. My wife sat next to me, and could see no problem. I haven't put the bat in the remote yet.

Finally, it did come with a recovery disc and a WinDVD Creator 2 Platinum disc. Also, I did put our Mem. Stick in the card reader and loaded some pics. Nice feature, since this will be the main editing PC.

Hope this helps. I hope to get into it a little more, but truck, 1 yr old, Pregn wife and spring yard work are all getting in the way.

    Yep,

Mine has the remote and it stores in the PCI slot. I haven't enabled the fingerprint reader yet, because I haven't had much time to figure out the extras; or any of it for that matter.

I have the 1.83, I didn't see a selection, as far as the remote, when I built mine.
