I am trying to disable my Toshiba Satellite 2410 power button.

Why? The problem is it is a flat button above my keyboard and whenever my cat steps on it, the computer turns off. I never use the button anyway, as I use the Windows Shutdown software feature.

I figure this button can be disabled. Anyone know how?

    Thanks

In XP, go to your display properties(right click and scroll down to properties). Then click on the Screen Saver tab and navigate to and click "Power"(monitor power). Then in Power Options Properties, navigate to the "Advanced" tab and go down to "when i press the power button on my computer" and select do nothing or standby ect in the drop down menu.

That's exactly what I was looking for. I take that if I choose "No action" that this only applies to when the PC is already on, but that when it's off the button will still work to turn on the PC? Silly question probably, but just thought I'd doublecheck.

To play it safe i would do hibernation(it saves what you been working and puts your pc to sleep/shutdown but when you press the power buttion it resumes what you will doing before it went in to hibernation mode or try standby as an action but i assume that it will only applies when your in windows but i am not too sure. Maybe you can test it ;)
