This is my brother's laptop. Bought from FutureShop in Canada. Model is Toshiba Satellite A200-AH1. Operating System is Windows Vista Basic. The laptop is approx 1 yr and 4 months old. The laptop is not used much (often 2-3 weeks between uses)...but has generally ran ok.
    .
A few days ago the A200 starting having problems with the display. I brought the laptop to my place. The display is garbled and not readable. It sometimes has multi-coloured lines on the display and the display appears to be scrolling...this happens consistently..tried rebooting multiple times.
    .
I hooked the A200 to an external monitor and pressed FN-F5 and external monitor operated fine.
    .
Does this indicate the LCD screen itself is likely defective? Has there been any problems with A200 LCD screens going bad? Do the A200 laptops come with 1yr warrantyy standard -if the LCD has went bad, what are the chances of Toshiba replacing the LCD outside of warranty? Is there any further troubleshooting or tests that I can do to determine if LCD screen is bad ?

You have done the appropriate trouble-shooting. My suspicion would fall on the connectors for the cable feeding the display, not the display itself. Sometimes the connectors can work loose when the computer is opened / closed / moved around.

I would start by trying to find where the cable connects to the motherboard (perhaps under the keyboard) then remove and replace the cable from the socket.
