I have had 2 toshiba satellites crap out on me...motherboards dying. for those of you that do not know, that cannot be replaced like ram. the motherboard IS your computer. toshiba failed to correct the problem twice!
if a toshiba is 500.00 and next to it is any other brand and 600.00, i will buy the other brand. i hear they make ok tvs, but STEER CLEAR OF TOSHIBA COMPUTERS. DO NOT BUY!

Do you have any idea how many "DO NO BUY" threads have been posted over the years here? You've had a bad experience, and I'm sorry that's happened to you. But if we listened to all the people who post such "Beware, do not buy" warnings - which apply to just about every manufacturer/builder you can think of, we'd all have to stop using computers.

If there's a way to escalate your issue with Toshiba managers or supervisors, I'd suggest you try. Maybe even a letter to the BBB, if you have really been treated poorly, would help. You've run into bad luck and need some assistance, which I hope you'll get. I think you should be persuing that very help rather than posting such warnings, but I wish you well just the same. Good luck.

It sure scared me into wondering if I should go with another brand being this is my first experience and have to have one that lasts.

Don't listen to that guy, he probably just doesn't know how to treat a laptop (no offence sbk93036 but you are probably leaving something out). If you send your laptop to any manufacturer looking like it had a fight with the sidewalk just about everyone will ask for money to repair it.

I am on my second Toshiba and they are workhorses. I DJ with my laptop, I have put it through some pretty rough situations and it still runs just like the day I bought it (after a few performance/security tweaks) .

I just bought a new one so I could game on the road now. I'm a satisfied customer if you ask me :) .

Wow, sorry about your luck dude. Out of 6,500 toshiba laptops we support and my 2 personal ones, we've had 2 power supply issues, 5 battery issues, an idiot that spills beer on his keyboard and someone that dropped theirs. I'll have to say, the only issues we really have had over the last 8 years here is that Toshiba seems to STOP releasing drivers and updates seemingly after they ship the model. :(

Well, just letting you know that I'm typing on a 4 years old Toshiba Satellite as well... and im impressed, because I live in Brazil, inna city in middle of the rainforest (Manaus) and I use it inna enviroment with very high temperatures and umidity (no air conditioning) and my only problem so far is the DVD burner, that I should replace... but that I wont because Im saving for a new notebook this year. =x

LOL, that's the way to argue Toshiba's quality.

Toshiba isn't that bad, I think their BIOS is good. They are a bit heavy compared to other laptops. They could do a few things better in the "do you really need cut so many corners on a $2000 laptop" department.

*Do they still cover the CPU vent on the SLi models or have they provided the GPUs with a proper cooling solution? [70+c on the CPU can't be very good in the long run]*

But if you are looking for a general use laptop, I'd get one of those $500-$700 laptop without a 2nd thought.

I have had two Toshiba Satellite computers work fine for years. They are well-built and inexpensive machines that will serve most well. The company's customer service skills aren't great, but neither is any other manufacturer's.

Motherboards ARE replaceable, if you know how to... And if you can find one. It is no less replaceable than any other company's motherboard.

You are flaming here because you had a problem. Well if the problem happens to you twice, and me never, then I'm betting you aren't taking very good care of your laptop.

    sbk93036,

Just curious what models where they and how old? Also, you are implying that only toshiba laptops go bad and everyone else makes a laptop that will never go bad or if you are out of warranty the other manufacturer's will fix it with a smile and only toshiba is giving you grief..
