No complaints with my M60, but I would have picked the nasty one for my last Toshiba!
Matt -
My I'm pretty content with mine. The only thing that's happened to it was the Video card blew out once, so I had to get it replaced. Other than that, everything's been pretty smooth.
-
I've had my m45-S269 for a couple of months now. I have had no problems and I am satisfied. If I had to do it agin I may have paid more attention to the build quality. Like I said overall I am satisied and I got a good deal on it.
-
i like my m60 too, although now i wish id have gone with a smaller screen though, lke the m70
-
I love my Toshiba M40, but I hate Toshiba as a company...because of things like their product recovery disks and such. But they make excellent notebooks.
-
-
If I had to guess I would think they mean all the crap that they add on to the stuff you really need, like Toshiba Media Player, Quicken, McAfee Antivirus, Microsoft Office Trial.........I agree, just give me a clean install and the drivers I need!
Matt -
I see. But all major notebook manufacturers give out tons of bloatware with their new notebooks - I guess it's just one of those it's "part of life" things.
-
Alas, we can still whine and moan about it though
What we need to do is to wack those notebook manufactures and make them give us the real M$ installation CDs! Grrr.. -
Hi,
I just bought in a Toshiba A80-P4321 a couple of weeks ago. Although the model is outdates and no more in production in US but in India it is readily available. Although people here are more inclined towards HP, ACER adn DELL, I preferred Toshiba. I know its too early to comment on its performance right now but still I am quite satisfied and contended with it. -
I'm currently on my third toshiba, a tecra 8100 (p3 600mhz) and the thing has taken all the abuse I've been able to throw at it. That includes my thesis work measuring wave forces at night about 30 yards from where the waves are breaking. I usually had to wipe the screen down every 1/2 hour to get rid f all the mist, and image how much saltwater spray got inside it as well. Well, I'd rather not think about it and just be happy that it still runs. Once I finish my thesis (and have some money) I'll definately get another toshiba laptop.
-
I Love it - Everyone should get a Toshiba!

I'm really not that thrilled with my 5205-s505. I got it as a replacement for a devective Compaq which an extended waranty wouldn't cover for some stupid reason but Circuit city(where I bought the compaq and the waranty) was willing to do a trade with me. It's been okay all along with just the bay covers breaking off (why would you use plastic tabs when normal wear and tear breaks them?). This year though the DVD drive stopped reading DVD's the lock for the main battery broke so the battery is stuck to the laptop, one hinge is dead on the screen so it won't "lock" into a place other than at a 90 degree angle with the floor, the screen also flickers (as in columns of non sense appear for a few seconds) and the mouse will randomly stop working. This is why I'm looking into a new laptop.
-
I've had my M60 for about a month now and I love it. It's fast, the screen is beautiful, I have had ZERO problems with the keyboard (some reviews say they're sub par). And mine came in silver, not orange, which was a pleasant surprise.
-
I've got the M45-S169 and I'm very happy with it.
-
Metamorphical Good computer user
Me and my Toshiba A35-S509 had some great times. =D
-
Love it. I have been liberated by my Libretto. It's my primary computer out of the office, rarely leaving my side and easily slips in my briefcase.
-
Actually I like Toshiba Tecra series, but what a pity there is no Tecra series with Trubrite? Or not yet..
-
Yes - unfortunately the Tecra series does not come with a TruBrite screen as of now. Hopefully it'll get one when Toshiba refreshes it with Intel's new CPUs.
-
i just oredered a tecra a4 with trubrite
-
I had a satellite 5000-X1Z with the Ge-force go 440 and 1600 X 1200 display....its been through hell and back and still works but latley its been freezing and after it might take a few days before it decides to turn on again...Bought a P-30 with 128 Mb ATI radeon 9700 and I love it...just wished it had the dual layer burner tho. I also miss the resoution of the old laptop.
-
Glad to hear that most people like their Toshibas
Mikey - you may have a problem related to the 5000/5100 series's GPU. Here's a link about this problem: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=26673
-
I love Toshiba's TruBrite screens. They are sweet!
-
I've used two Satellites in the past, a 1998 and 2003 model. Both were built very, very well, especially for the price, almost IBM quality in fact. Unfortunately, I hear that their quality is steadily dropping.
I'm to receive a M55 sometime this week in the mail and tried one out at Bestbuy. I was quite impressed with its screen and found no keyboard flex at all unlike what several owners have complained about. My only complaint is that its a bit boxy and ugly. -
Does anyone notice that air gaps in the laptop chasis is quite a common problem on toshibas in general? Ive used several models and many have had it. Now, just in case you dont know what an air gap is, its where you can press down on a certain part of the laptop (like the palmrest for say), and you will feel the plastic go in a tiny wee bit before you feel it hit another piece of plastic underneath. What this means, is that there is a tiny space between the two pieces of material...the one that you are touching, and the one that its coming in contact with. Also, another way you can tell is that if its the edge or something, you can visibly see that its raised a slight wee bit.
Now, not saying its a big deal cause its not but if you got it on yours, would it bother YOU? Most people would ignore it, or heck not even notice it. But I guess, us notebook geeks just look for these things eh?
if you need me to clarify bit more, let me know. -
I did not notice any of that in three Toshiba Satellite M55s I tried out at CompUSA, Bestbuy, and Costco. I don't think this issue would be exclusive to Toshibas only.
I am a major notebook geek and I think this issue of which you speak would not bother me at all, or very little. -
But ya, most people wouldnt even notice it.
I dont touch my hands against the laptop anyways, other than the keyboard cause i dont want to break it. Ive heard stories of paint coming off, etc. -
I'm still using an M15-S405. Got it second hand but hardly used and it has been solid & trustworthy for years. 1.4 centrino, 15" screen, 32Mb Geforce4 420 Go graphics. Fabulous for the time.
Only upgrade has been to 1GB of Ram. The harman/kardon speakers are great, and the design with the screen raised a little makes it so much easier to work with. And, the long-life version of the battery will give me six hours at normal usage.
I'm really sad
a) That this design started & ended with this model (Also available as the M10 in Europe)
b) The build quality of Toshibas seems to have gone since this model.
Now that it is 4 years old I know I will have to replace soon, but it is a pity I cannot get the same design but upgraded to todays' specsAttached Files:

I am rather dissapointed in my M60 now. I was lovin it up until last night when it just decided to shut down after being on for 12hrs, fans going all mad crazy and obviously its overheating, what a freakin joke. 2 weeks old, and this.
So im bringing it back in about an hour and getting the P100 most likely, duo core. -
I received my M55-S3294 last Wednesday, didn't get to use it until Friday and so far, its been an absolute joy to use. I bought it refurbished, saved a couple of hundred dollars but its basically in new conditon save for just a couple of scratches on the lid on the Toshiba logo. Otherwise, its 100% brand new, still has the "new computer smell".
I love everything about it. I love some of Toshiba's software like their "Touch and Launch" especially along with the Connectivity Doctor for instance.
Despite what several have said about its mediocre build quality, mine is built solid like a rock, the most solid notebook I've used outside of Thinkpads and Powerbooks perhaps, its built a lot better than the price will lead you to beleive.
I'm just plainly shocked at all the reports I'm hearing of Toshiba's quality going downhill as my M55 is build very, very well. Too well perhaps....???
There is no flexing on it whatsoever, especially on the keyboard, just no flexing period.
It takes me a LOT of force to cause ripples on the screen when I tap it on the back, this notebook is built tough. Either the newer M55s are built better or I'm very lucky with mine.
The screen is one of the best I've ever seen outside of Sony's XBrite, this screen is very sharp, bright and clear, an absolute joy to look at.
I LOVE my Toshiba so far and hope it doesn't give me any problems as I'm getting a bit concerned about some people's Toshiba's having serious issues. Long live Toshiba!!!
To anyone who has owned any Toshiba here for a while, has your keys on your keyboards started to get shiny and worn out looking? If so, how bad? I really don't want this to happen to my keyboard, its the only thing I'm dreading. -
At the moment I hate my A75-206. I like the layout but every since I bought it 1 1/2 yrs. ago. it has crashed daily. Now after having it to the service center 3 times for crashing 6-12x/day I'm fed up. I don't game. I use mine for business and this has been a HUGE pain. Won't buy another one. Looking for good suggestions on a DEPENDABLE machine. Looked at other forums and Toshiba is being trashed pretty regularly by others fed up with the crashing.
-
Man, that sucks for you.
I'm sorry to hear so many people complain about Toshibas while mine's been an absolute joy to use, if only you guys could see it and use it and see that Toshiba can still make good machines.
I'm sure there are many people happy with their Toshibas and only people who have trouble with their machines will take the time to go on forums and complain about their machine, while the people whose machines give em no problems are too busy enjoying their notebooks to go on forums and praise them.
Just like how many people for example may blame god for their troubles and bad luck but will forget to praise him and thank him when something good happens, probably a bad analogy.
In case you want to look at Toshiba ever again, consider the M55 series maybe, I haven't heard any complaints of them crashing, only them having some flexing in the keyboard area which mine doesn't have period. -
I had bought Toshiba Satellite 1415 S173 over 4 and half years ago. I had used it about 14 hours a Day minimum for complete 4 and half years - sold it 2 months ago. I never ever had a single complaint! Didn't Get hot even though stayed on for 10 / 14 hours straight, never had to send for repair or replace any part. Perfect Bang for Money. don't know about their support and all since never needed it, but I would recommend Toshiba For Quality of product for sure.
Between, it doesn't matter which company product you buy, there is no 100% satisfaction for every single customer, sometime you get best from worst and worst from best, best thing is to Get warranty and look for Quality of product and support, and hope that you will get what you simply pay for. -
My gf's 1.5 years old A65 overheat and shutdown by itself pretty often.
-
Yikes, sucks to see all the horror stories you guys are experiencing. This M55 is my third Toshiba and all of them have performed rock solidly, no problems whatsoever.
-
i'm kinda happy for my new m50 toshiba.
i bought it for almost 2 weeks, there is still some 2-3 days left to return it.
If i decide to return it, that is because of the fan and heating. the fan runs even when the laptop is cool. and it heats up (~50C) when all i do is browsing website and doing words, although for extended period of times say like 5-6 hours. That's also how i found this forum, busy looking for solution..like rahul said.
-
Yes when I had an old one around 3 years ago, was great
. Hope it counts, after all it was Toshiba
-
I am very satisfied with my M40-JM3, i got one of these babies before they were even released, so it is a very early model, and have had no problems. Well, except that the AC died once (the power box, not the AC plug on the laptop), but my dealer swiftly replaced it for me. I think that was due to a power surge, or maybe a faulty unit, but the laptop itself is very good. In the first month or two, almost everyone including myself had that whining high pitch sound, but it's gone now, so its probably a sound card driver problem, or its just something that happens with brand new units (needs breaking in!).
Also, recently i decided to update all the drivers that Toshiba has on their website, including BIOS to 1.70, and the wireless problem is gone, vanished. Every time i reboot, the wireless stays on.
All in all I'd give my laptop an A- because craftsmanship is not as good as some of the other brands, and i have not yet run into any major porblems that involve me dealing with Toshiba Support directly, but the product is very good. Feels great playing all the latest games on highest settings for the past year... -
Does anyone have the Tecra A6? Is that a good laptop? I used to have a Tecra 5000 looooong time ago and it served me well enough.
The A6 I am referring to is the Core Duo version.
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2801
Also, what is the mention of Tru Brite screen technology? I am unfamiliar with it. -
I've had mine for 3 years without any real bad problems. However, I'm not hard on machine at all. Haven't dropped it ect...
I'll admit it's not a road warriors laptop, but I don't think it's that bad from a durability build stand point.
Regards,
Mike -
Really nice Avatar. I enjoyed it.
BTW, I will say mine has one of the nicest look in Toshiba ones and I choosed it over Dell Inspiron 6000 and HP DV 4000. very nice look. -
7 days ago I bought Toshiba Satellite A105-S361
Pentium M 2HGz
1GB DDR2 Memory
120GB 5400RPM SATA drive
Still satisfied!
Why satisfied? Because I paid $249 for 3 years warranty, it'll pay off!Last edited by a moderator: Feb 2, 2015 -
Have 2435-S255 ( i think). Bought it 3 years ago and my only complaint is that one of my USB ports stopped working, but that is mostly likely because i once hit the laptop at which point my hard drive also broke
I guess they should build impact resistant laptops for angry russians
Its great really, never a problem. Im replacing it with the new P100 that should arrive next week. I chose it over the HP DV8000t and i hope i made the right choice. -
I guess it depends on model you bought. I got faulty designed one. love my M30, display, ergonomics and hate it because of it keeps failing every 4-5 months-motherboards, video card, display. everything was replaced once or twice under warranty. And I am pretty sure it will fail again. I wish they had replacement policy. it was expensive to buy for me and now Toshiba spend those money to fix majors.
-
My M100-JG2 is about 5 days old and I STILL LOVE IT!!!
-
i jsut took off the protective plastic film thats on top of the lid and i got scratches on the lid now! i had some plastic thin file folders on top of the laptop in my backpack and now i have these minor scratches and 'marks'.
this is on my m70-cl1, is there anyway i can get rid of these marks, or in the future, are replaceable covers available? -
Yeah, that would be nice to have a CHOICE when it comes to all the garbage they shove into the new systems... but if any of you have read about the Sony Vaios, they're apparently a NIGHTMARE to reformat and reinstall Windows. So i guess Toshiba isn't that bad after all - at least in that department....
Do you like your Toshiba?
