    Does DDR2 Memory work in the m40?

    I recently bought an m40 off the toshibadirect website. I had read a bunch of reviews before i bought it and i decided that the best idea for memory would be to buy the lowest amount of ram (256 mb) and just buy an extra stick of 512 mb ram off newegg. I also read that the m40 ran the new Pentium chip which meant it supported DDR2 ram.

    In comes the problem. I got the ram but it won't fit into the labtop! The small slit in the memory(that seperates the two sections of gold connectors) is too far to the right. I compared it to the stick of memory that came with the labtop, and the slits were in slightly different positions. The difference was only a millimeter or so, but it was large enough of a distance to keep the ram from fitting into the slot.

    I looked online at newegg and noticed that the slit on the plain DDR models seem to be in the correct position.

    Does anyone have any info on this? I'd really love to use my brand new DDR2 memory, but it just won't fit. If anyone has any suggestions, i'd greatly appreciate it.

    I do believe it doesnt support DDR2... I think you are better off returning the ram and get DDR

    yeah that model can't support DDR2.

    Anyway, thanks for the replies, i guess i'll just get DDR

    Is there a HUGE difference between DDR and DDR2 memory?

    no there isnt...the performance difference is pretty small...jus getting more memory is the best idea
