I read somewhere in this forum that it uses the Dothan. I compare the spec for the Dothan CPU againist my YSJ spec and they are different.

Can someone send some links to support that this is a Dothan CPU?

I don't have any supporting links, but I do have an M30-YSJ and when I ran Intel's CPU ID program, the L2 cache was 1 Mb. I do not know if others have Dothan.

Oh, Dothan uses 2MB for L2.

I think beside battery life, there's not much big difference

    Story,

The Canadian models of the M30-YSJ SE, only have a standard Pentium M 1.6Ghz (Banias, w/1MB L2 Cache). It's indicated on the Toshiba Canada website. If you're in Canada and you bought it in Canada, then you only have the Banias version of the CPU, not Dothan.

If you read it on the site, then it's possible that the unit was from the US. They have the custom config option to add a Dothan CPU to the unit, otherwise, it was indicated by mistake.

I just went on the American Toshiba site, and i'm quite pissed that the Canadian site doesn't offer customized units and as many options. All the systems come with Dothan and none of the Canadian systems do. BOOOOO

Do you know of any laptops even from other companies that have a Dothan processor/

Yeah, Canada seems to be a bit behind when it comes to technology. pretty much all notebook manufacturers don't offer a custom config unit, except for Dell, but they ship directly from the US. HP does the exact same as Toshiba, only having pre-built models with bad options.

Regarding Dothan CPU's, you may be able to buy a Dothan CPU and pop it into the M30. Since the US models have this option, the boards should support it (possible BIOS update needed). I believe they currently sell the Dothan CPU's on their own.

Regadring other notebooks, there's a bunch available.

    Dell Pentium M models
    HP ZT3000 series
    Acer Aspire 2020 Series
Asus (you can buy the parts yourself and upgrade the base unit)

These are just a few, there are a lot more out there.

You may want to take a look at the ZT3350us which is available at Best Buy for $1999.99. Futureshop's selling the same unit (online only) for $2199.99, do a price match and you'll get it for $1979.99 + taxes on top and free shipping.
