While people are on the subject of bags, will these brands really help with making sure the X300 isn't knocked around too much?

And without a specialised bag, has anyone had experience with travelling around with it yet? I really hope the new Qosmio models are good for travelling with. (My Sony Vaio wasn't...)

(Though I suppose people would chose the 15" F55 model instead if they really planned on travelling around with one of these new models...)

    1440x900. :)

It's VERY secure in the Jansport, doesn't move at all or anything like that. The laptop is positioned in the backpack to be right on your back so it's at the most secure place I think - it is however more than comfortable so don't worry about that.

Haven't gone anywhere with it yet, but will be flying next week :)

    Hello,

My first post on this forum. Just ordered the X300 from PC world (laskys.com sold out) will be picking it up on my way to work later. This will be my first gaming laptop as I only currently have a Dell Inspiron for boring thing. Hope it's going to be worth the money!! I'll try and post some picks too if anyone wants them.

It's similar, but not identical. Ours has a 2.40Ghz Centrino 2, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, nVidia 9700 GTS graphics. A few differences I think.

Anyway a new driver came out for the X300 on the Tosh site at least, yesterday.

Oh right on thanks suek. It seems you have a faster cpu and more harddisk space but our graphics cards are the same so the driver must be compatible. I didn't check it out yet, but I'll go right now. BTW i'm running 175.90 whats the new driver version? Anyway going to toshiba support download site now.

Oh thanks suek. I did look under the x305 but the only download out is 175.90, so I'm downloading the driver in the link you posted, but I don't want to install it till I know what driver version it is. Did you update if so can you check yours to see what version it is and let me know, so I don't install the same thing I already have. Thanks

edit: I looked in the NVCO.inf to find the version and I think it's 176.18. correct me if I'm wrong but if you updated is it any faster than 175.90?

I haven't updated yet - very busy time for me at the moment as I'm moving 180 miles away tomorrow!!

If I get a chance to do it tonight I will but I can't promise anything I'm afraid.

I got my x300 11s at the start of september. I bought it in Ireland but haven't had a chance to give my review because I've moved to Paris for the year for college.

Set-up/booting: It took a long time I thought, the screen eventually went blank and stayed blank for ages, I waited a good 20mins but nothing was happening so I turned it of with the power button. Then it restarted normally. And I was up and running.

In general it does take longer than I would like for vista(32bit) to boot up. I unchecked what I could from startup in MSconfig and I think that helped a bit, but it's still probably over 2mins to get to the user selection when you have turned it off completely.

This is my first experience with Vista and I've heard so many bad reviews, so if I encounter a problem I tend to blame vista! What I would say is that the computer always seems to be doing something more than you want it to. For example in the first few weeks when I was just listening to music on Windows Media Player sometimes the music would stall for a second, I havent encountered this problem in a while, so maybe thing have sorted themselves out. Only other problem that comes to mind is Internet explorer problem but i guess thats a microsoft issue. Just downloaded firefox!

Performance: Seems really fast at installing stuff, for example just downloaded and installed firefox in under 30 seconds (13MB internet), i don't know how good that is but seems good to me. I'm not a serious gamer, but I have installed Medal of Honor War Chest, and it's good enough for me! No stalling/freezing or lagging or any problems that I can think of. The game is well out of date at this stage so no real point in talking about graphics, but it plays well.

Screen: No problems with me, I bought a USB TV tuner and the display quality is beautiful. I'm sure I could tweak it to improve it still but I haven't bothered.

Speakers: Class. Have yet to hear better laptop speakers, great for music and TV, they go loud enough for the average user, but if you want to absolutely blast your music (at a party or when playing along with an electric guitar or something) they probably dont go loud enough at the same quality.

Keyboard: Ye it's glossy but no it doesn't leave you prints at all. I like having the number pad. Cool media centre touch sensitive keys above keyboard.

Touchpad Mouse: Fine if you use it, R and L clicks are fine. I have a usb mouse so don't really use it. However, I have yet to find out how to turn it off as is pretty sensitive, so when typing if you hit you thum off it it can reset your curser to a new line and mess up your text!

Appearence: RED! No doubt it's an eye catcher, especially the lid. I was using it in college one day and everyone passing buy was having a good gawk at it. it's fine be me but if i had a choice I don't think i would have picked bright red.

Battery and Portabily: I guess for most people this is what lets it down. The battery is poor because the machine is so powerful, Even on powersave mode just doin basic browsing you wounldn't get much more than 90mins. In terms of portability I wouldn't be going far with it! I bought a 'Temium' case for it, laptop fits comfortably, brick is a bit of a tight fit into the pocket. I would highly recommend a backpack bag, because mines just a one shoulder strap and after an hour you begin to feel it.

Only other thing that I can think of adding is that lately its started to make a vibration hum around near the bottom right speaker, thats annoying my.

Fn+F9 to turn off trackpad. Otherwise there is software to adjust sensitivity.

Well I have the X305. On my first one I did install 32 bit Vista and it did take a long time to install, but after one week I exchanged it do to a small blemish I made and it bothered me, Like scratching the paint job of your brand new car.

Anyway on this one, I first researched the pros and cons of 32 and 64 bit, and chose to install 64 bit. Man no waiting at all just clicked and in a second I was on Vista desktop. No software compatibility issues at all with my games and downloaded programs. I think everything runs more smooth too, maybe because system is using all 4 megs of ram now.

I also recently went to Toshiba US website to download updated drivers and they had alot of new ones, and since installing all the updates including the new vid drivers and Bios. I'm certain my X305s components are running like a well oiled machine and firing on all pistons. I do notice my games playing even more fluid and internet loading way faster and better connection in multiplayer games via internet. So I suggest you update your x300 too and maybe change to 64bit Vista.

I do agree with you about the battery being a hinderance, although I'm a gamer I like it that I can play demanding graphical games without losing framerates while using just battery power although I can only play for 45 min. before I need an outlet, still for 45 min. my butt gets sore sitting and I need to break anyway.

Colorful is what I can say. I take it with me to Starbucks and like you said a lot of ppl gawk at this. I've had a lot of compliments, but sometimes I wish it looked a little more professional so I can act all businessy and sophisticated, but then why try to act like a business man and be playing video games, so the outrageous look of it gives me permission to be immature and game like a 34 year old mad man drinking coffee. lol

Finally yeah fn+f9 toggles the touch pad on and off. Beautiful!

To me this notebook is like having a gorgeous chocolate model girlfriend. Her looks are controversial but I don't care cause she's da bomb!

so your startup is over 2 minutes too?

i had one x300 (one from canada) and it had problems booting up, definitly over 2 minutes. it was getting really annoying so i returned it. there were alot of errors in the log when it starts up.

i got another one and the boot time is super fast. it takes me about 30 seconds to get to my password page, i type it in and 2 seconds later im on my desktop. it also feels faster for some reason.

i dont know if it was just me, but after the vista logo on the first laptop i had, writing came up saying "please wait" for at least 2 minutes.

i have an x305-q701 and my score is 8426, so the score for the x300-11s will be much higher. I expect it to be around 9000 with the GPU overclocked or around 8200-8300 without it oc'd. plus i did a lot of tweaks to get mine from 7300 to 8426.

I have just recently bought this laptop and am worried about 1 thing. I have the 9700m gts model and have been watching the temps with HWmonitor and a few other monitor programs, When i run a game or a benchmark on stock clocks the temperature of the GPU will rise all the way to 95C / 200F !!!

I dont get any sort of corruption in game and ATItool does not find artifacts but i am still worried about this and how long the GPU in the laptop will last if this continues, What does everyone elses GPU temps max out at with stock clocks?

    Thanks in advance

95C is nothing. Using the benchmark FURMARK which stresses your GPU more than any game will, my friend used it on his laptop with a 9700M GTS for over 3 hours straight with the GPU steady at 95C and he has not had any problems with it since. God Bless :)

what? my 9700M GTS doesnt go over 65 degrees playing cod4 or while running furmark, 3dmark 06. i built my own cooler so it doesnt go over 50 degrees. that temp should reduce the laptops life alot!

When you run FURMARK, there are 2 test, the Benchmark and Stability test. Big difference between the 2. As one will only run for about a minute or so but the other will keep running and will peg your GPU at 100% till you stop it. Plus I *thought* I read somewhere that the thermal limit on the GPU's were like 115C or so. God Bless :)

My GPU fan kicks it at about 143 farenheit. I never seen it go above 155 farenheit also.
