I'm thinking of ordering a customized P200 from ToshibaDirect. Does anyone have one of these, and are you happy with it and with Toshiba support?

The specs I'm looking at are the following:

    CPU: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB)
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium 32-Bit
Office Software: Microsoft® Office Ready Suite 2007 (60-day trial)
    Memory: 2048MB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (1024MBx2)
    LCD: 17.0" Diagonal Widescreen XGA+ TruBrite® display
Graphics Controller: nVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600 with 256MB dedicated graphics memory
    HDD: 160GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA)
Optical Media: DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash™ drive
    Mini-PCI/WiFi: Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN (802.11a/g/n)
    Bluetooth: Bluetooth® v.2.0 + EDR
    Speaker: harmon/kardon® stereo speakers
    Battery: Li-Ion Battery (9-cell, 6000mAH)

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on how hot this config is going to run?

I just configured the almost the same thing on Toshibadirect a few minutes ago. I chose the 7200 Core 2 Duo instead. No extra warranty or goodies. I don't know if these come w/ the built in webcam or not. I just got my P205-S6297 on May 1 and am seriously considering sending it back to upgrade to this all because of the integrated GMA950 which is the only downfall I've noticed so far. This is my first PC. I figured the 7600 would let me play games a lot better and that's it. Other than that, it seems like a pretty good set up to me but don't take my inexperienced word for it. Sorry I couldn't help more.

No, I appreciate hearing that at least someone else is buying one. ;) I was told that the P200 customized does come with the integrated webcam...If you check the site under "detailed specs" for the P200 model the webcam is listed there under "communications."

How hot/loud does your 6297 run? Cool enough to actually be put on your lap?

I ordered my custom P200 April 30 and due to a Fed-Ex delay it's supposed to arrive this Thursday 5/17. I can let you know how mine compares once I get my hands on it. Mine's a little different from yours --
    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB),
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium 32-Bit,
    Microsoft® Office Ready Suite 2007 (60-day trial),
    1024MB PC5300 DDR2 667MHz SDRAM (1024MBx1) -- I've got another 1GB waiting to install myself,
    17.0" Diagonal Widescreen XGA+ TruBrite® display,
    nVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7600 with 256MB dedicated graphics memory,
    160GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial-ATA),
DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash™ drive,
    Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965 AGN (802.11a/g/n),
    Bluetooth® v.2.0 + EDR,
    harmon/kardon® stereo speakers,
    Li-Ion Battery (6-cell, 4000mAH)

My receipt says it also comes with a fingerprint reader and integrated webcam.

Thank you - I'd love to hear what you think of it - performance, heat, fan noise are most important to me at this point. So how much do you figure you are saving doing the memory upgrade yourself? I know someone who could do this for me so maybe I can save a few bucks that way. :)

Right now, 2x1GB of DDR2-667 RAM is $78 shipped on New Egg. 1GB alone (to upgrade if you got 1GB from Toshiba) is $39.

Toshiba wants $200 or so for 2GB of RAM.

Definitely a better deal to upgrade the RAM yourself, and it's pretty easy. I got mine from NewEgg.
I hope this laptop is worth it. Customer Service at Toshiba has not been stellar. They have a frustrating policy to NOT give out your shipping tracking number, and your shipment notification doesn't even say whether it's FedEx or UPS. You have to call Toshiba to ask them to track it for you. And the 2-day air that was originally indicated has become a week due to some customs issue in Anchorage. I called Monday and they said it would come that day. Later that day someone said it would be Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon they told me Thursday. It's supposedly out for delivery today...I'll believe it when I see it!

I recently (finally) received my P200 customized and I gotta say that I am INCREDIBLY pleased with it. My system was essentially configured the same as the OP except I got the T5500 processor.

To answer the question about the accessories, it does in fact come with the webcam and the fingerprint scanner.

The main reason why I'm so happy with the system is the beautiful screen. I recently bought a new HP laptop that looked great in store but when I took it home, the screen horribly grainy. I did some research and saw that the Toshiba Satellite was one of the few 17" laptops that didn't suffer from the grain issue. When I received it a few days ago I was elated to see that the screen was glossy perfection.

The only major issue with the buying experience was with customer service. I had the damn thing on 2-day shipping and yet it took me 15 days to receive my order. That was a bit ridiculous.

Finally got my web access back. I have not noticed much heat coming from the S6297. The battery lasted about 4 hours before the dummy light came on. I can leave it on my lap the whole time I play on this and feel some warmth, not much really. But then again, I'm cold-blooded. As for noise, the fan is a little loud, but doesn't run long. The DVD is a tad loud though but the speakers mask it well during a movie.

The bigger keyboard w/ the 10-key is really nice as is the display. I love 17".

One thing though, this Labelflash capability is useless to me because Fujifilm won't have the blank compatible discs for sale in the U.S. for until later this year. At least, that's what their email said.
    That really ticks me off.

I decided to keep this 6297 and just deal w/ the GMA950. I'll get a desktop next year but I have a Mustang that needs some TLC.

I called Toshiba's customer service # just to whine about the putting this unit under "Gaming" notebooks on their website.

As this is my first run at be online at home, I'm finding it fun to sent comments to the companies I've long had gripes with! ;)

So are you going to order one?
