How would one go about finding out if the Toshiba's have this as a root cause of the overheating? Going black? etc.?

My GPUs have died 3 times in my SLi4. The techs won't replace the heatsinks that are probably causing the problem.

my 8600m's have been just fine, except when I let the fans/heatsinks get too dirty once. Even then, they hit 105C before crashing. I regularly overclock the GPU's with ATITools for gaming, and they run cool and stable.
I'd love to have Nvidia/Toshiba slap a couple of 9800m's into my machine (if such things exist), but I've had my Sli3 nearly a year, and it seems pretty stable. -
oh, but I AM glad I the extended warranty!
Does the SLI1 [& others] have the faulty GPUs?
