If you live in Portugal be carefull about Toshiba.
I bought a M40X-309 and when I received it at home the MOBILITY™ RADEON® X600SE graphics card was defective.
I returned it to the shop and till now (15 days passed) I have no computer, and I don´t know when I'll have it.
I didn't know that Toshiba sells defective computers.
    I'm angry!

I'd ask for my money back since you just got it.

I'm sorry Bairradino but just because you have one into ONE problem that appears to be a manufacuring default, which...when mass producing computers can easily happen..doesnt make Toshiba a bad brand.

I've had my shiny new Toshiba M40 for a grand total of 3 days so far, and i've already put it through more crap than I ever put my desktop through....and it has come through like a champ.

So far the only problems that I have run into with this Toshiba, are problems that I have caused myself..and summarily fixed.

Just remember, one problem doesnt make all Toshiba's bad.

Every brand has computers that arrive DOA, either the OS, or the hardware. That doesnt mean that the brand suddenly is not reliable. It is unfortunate for you, however. Some brands do things differently. I dont think hp boots their systems just to see if the OS loaded correctly, for example. We will get a whole bad batch of them sometimes. Toshiba is a very good manufacturer in my opinion.

    @mbrandall,

    I´m happy for you.
First of all I think that we must not admit that Toshiba can have a notebook defective.
Their Quality Control must avoid these situations.
OK, you say "It's one case". And I admit that errors can occur. But I think that in these kind of situations the service of Toshiba must functioning in a different way.
If I had a new computer suddenly, or my money back, or the reparation made in a couple of days...
I payed 1400 Euro and after 2 weeks... nothing.
I'm not complaing about the quality, in general terms, of Toshiba, because I have no experience with their products.
I´m complaing about their service in Portugal.
As you live in Australia I hope that their service ther will be better.

Do you have something like the Better Business Bureau over there? If you paid by credit card, that might give you some options.

Instead of getting angry. Did you ever think of contacting Toshiba about getting the card replaced? These things happen to even the best companies. One defective unit is nothing out of the ordinary. Unless you bought it from a shady source, it should come with a manufacturer's warranty. Starting a thread isn't going to get your card fixed. Nor will people avoid Toshiba just because someone some guy on the web warns them while there are countless others who have no problems with the company.

    @Bordello

I'm not stupid. I decided to put my problem on the net "only" after having contacts with Toshiba Portugal, Toshiba Europe, with no answers.
Every day I contact my supplier, the service shop ( I did it 5 minutes ago) and the answer is still the same: They are wating for the replacing part that was ordered on 3 November.
I bought the notebook in a computer's shop that sells Toshiba. It came with the warranty. They will repair the unit.
The problem is: I payed for a notebook, on 27 October, that had a manufacturing defeat. Today I have no money and no notebook.
I decided to put my situation on forums but, perhaps, there will be much people, with several problems with Toshiba, that think like you: "Starting a thread isn't going to get the problem fixed".
People are free to decide to avoid or not Toshiba!...
But I think that it is important to let them know what happens to me. Who knows if tomorrow it will happen with anyother one.

    @ Bordello

As you can see, I'm not the only one.
As today I'm still waiting for a solution. Toshiba offered me "100 Euro" for the delay, but I still don't know how long is the delay!
    I didn't accept.
    I want my notebook!

    At last!...
Twenty for days after I received my M40X-309 repaired.
I'm gonna pray for never having to return it to the Toshiba's service.
Guys, beyond the quality of Toshiba's material (or not) pay attention to the service in your zone.

    Regards.
