    Hi.

First of all let me say its not a request for drivers or anything. I spent more than 12 hours struggling and manipulating the drivers and then I decided to post the results here with hoping that it may help someone.

    Background:

I recently updated my laptop's memory to 4 GB and it was after that, that I figured out vista X32 can't handle more than 3.1 GB (at most!) . after some researching I ended up with the fact that I need to change my OS to x64 in order to get full advantage of the hardwares and of course the first choice was Windows XP SP2 64 Bit edition. ( call me crazy but I don't like to even think about that lame Vista OS again ).

AFAIK this model ( P200-JS5 ) is a limited product designed only to use in Canada but it seems A200 series are like its brothers so you may want to give these drivers a try if you're using one of them.

As you know the manufactures and on the top of them Toshiba don't give a * about costumers, supporting, updating drivers..... they simply say: Windows XP is not supported.... and it gets even worse when you decide to run 64 bit edition of that. the drivers are almost unfindable.

    ------------------------------------------------

OK, after a little background, first thing first. if you try to install windows xp 64 without any change in the installation CD, you'll end up with a nice message that says No Hard disk Found. and thats because It doesn't recognise your SATA Controller ( In my case : ICH8M or "Intel(R) 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller"

1- download the inf driver from Intel site and then inject it to the xp setup with " nLite" . google it if you don't know how, there are a lot of thread about that. and believe me its not that hard. leave a comment if you tried and failed. (Bear in mind you should get the driver for xp 64 bit version not 32 )

at this point, install your xp 64 bit. and then look at the device manager.. well, i did the same thing and simply freaked out :p

    2- install Intel inf update.

3- install Intel wifi driver for x64 .

    4- install realtek LAN driver.

5- install .Net 2 for x64 from microsoft web site.

6- download ATI driver + Catalyst Control Center for windows xp 64bit. you need to mod the inf before you can get it run.

7- now its time for audio drivers... you can download it from realtek site: both audio driver and hdmi driver

8- download " TEXAS INSTRUMENTS PCIXX12 INTEGRATED FLASHMEDIA CONTROLLER"

    9- and modem driver

10- ok, at this point, you should no longer see any question mark in the device manager. think we're cool? no, we're not ! .... still something's wrong and that is your lcd's backlight. Fn keys for that purpose are controlled by bios.... well but just in 32 bit. and it wont work in 64 bit mode. if you plug or unplug the adapter, you'll see the backlight will be set to max and the only way to get rid of that crazy light is to restart you computer and change the backlight before it switch to 64 bit mode (e.g: in BIOS flash screen ). after hours of searching, finally i found a solution for that. a little tiny software that could do exactly what we want. the program called: Miniature screen-brightness controller set this app in your startup folder.
its amazing how a little company can do something that really save our butt. pls say thanks in their website its the least we can do.

and after all you should be good to go. enjoy your very own and fast xp x64 and see how 3.1 GB has been changed to 4.1GB !

pls let me know if you have any suggestion.

In the end I really hope we could see more thread about downgrading to xp 64 bit or even switching to vista 64 bit in future.
