Apparently they never tried the Toshiba x205 sli line of notebooks. I have the sli1 it has a slower cpu than the sli2 which you posted and it's a beast especially when you update the video drivers. I play Call of Duty 4 with maxed out settings at 50 frames per second also Oblivion at 30-50 fps and other less demanding games at way higher frames per second which is very important for gaming, and at $1700 it's a steal for what your getting. Also Toshiba didn't cut corners on the features, read reviews on the sli1 or 3 cause they're very similar to the sli2 except for the cpus. And besides it's SLI the wave of the future. 2 IS better than 1.

Honestly, I would suggest the Gateway FX-6831 for $1350 at BestBuy. It has a T5450 1.67 GHz tied to 8800GTS and 3GB RAM. It matches the Toshiba SLi1 [2GHz/2-8600M/2GB] in the 3DMark06 at the same native resolution. That means the gateway, if you upgrade the chip, will give better performance clock for clock, than the SLi1. A T9300 in a SLi1 gives a 3DMark06 score of about 9400, it would probably hit around 10k in the Gateway.

    If I didn't own a SLi1, I'd buy the Gateway.

Well if i spend money on a brand new laptop i dont really intend on upgrading the processor right off the bat.. so should i just go for the toshiba or is the gateway worth it.. My main question being which one of the two is atleast capable of playing future games.. Maybe 1 to 2 years from now..

the 8800 will be better for DX10 games so i would recommend the gateway because it is cheaper and the 8800 will be a little more furture proof for DX10 gaming. i would only be worried about your processor but if you were to buy the 9300 for the gateway it would cost around $350 so you would be looking at about $1700 and much better performance than the sli1 for the same price. as much as i am happy with my sli1, if i were you i would go for the gateway.

I'd have to agree with the rest here, don't get me wrong, I LOVE my SLI1, and the T9300 i put in it runs everything great, but the Gateway would get my money if i had to buy one today and moeny was an issue (which it always is HA).... it's hard to beat the performance for the money with the Gateway, and from what I read, the CPU is very easy to upgrade in the Gateway, which you could do later and get a nice improvement when you need it...

Either will play any current game fine though at high settings (Crysis being the exception, but medium runs great), and should play whatever comes out in the next year or so, probably longer, with medium/high settings. The Toshiba is a better package in general I feel though, the speakers are wonderful and MURDER the Gateways, the Toshiba has the better keyboard I feel, and general better feel. And I personally really like the redish cover.

Bang for buck though, and if gaming performance is your ultimate goal for the best price, go with the Gateway.
