Hello all, I have the A205-S5804 laptop and found a 2gb single stick of memory at frys for a good deal. Typically I upgrade my ram by using both slots, but wanted to know if this laptop supports dual memory interleave? If so and I install one module then I've heard it won't run as fast as you using 2 modules. Please let me know if i'm wrong.

Using two modules will always be slower than one, for some reason on every computer DDR2 memory will reduce the clocks of both memory banks by about 40mhz when two are installed.

So in reality, using just ONE module will be FASTER than using both.

I think that is dual-channel, when you don't have 2 sticks of the same size, you won't be able to use it.
But more ram will usually better than dual-channel

    DDR2 memory is dynamic.

You can put a 2GB stick next to a 128MB stick.

You can also put a DDR2 800MHz stick next to a DDR2 533Mhz, and it will automatically clock the higher one to 533 and it will use both still.

But like I said, put any 2 sticks together, such as two DDR2 667 sticks, and it will run them both at 627mhz.

So would it actually run as fast as 2 1gb sticks?

both at same speed of course.

A single 2 GB stick should run FASTER than two 1GB sticks

No problem! btw, what's the deal at frys?

I bought my 4GB kit from them a few months ago for $120

Newegg.com sells 2GB sticks for $35 each, or 4GB kits for around 80$

    How much are you paying?

It was a 2gb stick of corsair value ram (pc5300) for $39.

Installed it tonight and my idle memory usage was around 64-68% and now it's at 41-45%

    vista runs great now!
