Hi I am a total amateur on setting up audio equipment, especially on laptops as this is my first one. My knowledge runs about as deep as knowing what RCA, Component, and HDMI cables are.

I have an old set of logitec 5.1 speakers that have a set of 3 output cables, one green, one orange, and one black. I plugged the green into the headphone jack, selected "line-in" and only 2 speakers+the sub turned on. I didn't want to mess around and switch the other cables in/out for fear of screwing something up with the jacks due to lack of knowledge.

My main question is, is this computer capable of 5.1 without purchasing a sound card? I read it was but my search function isnt working to recheck that. Secondly if i was to buy a new set of 5.1 speakers, preferably in the 150$ or lower range, which would be recommended and what additional cables/hardware would i need to use them.
