I have a L45-S7409 and my wife brought home from Japan an AX 55D. Her internal speakers give a far better sound than mine so I've decided to get some external speakers (assume they plug into headphone jack). Any recommendations on which speakers would give me best sound?

    What's your budget?
I would suggest Harmon Kardon Soundsticks II, as they have received very high ratings. It's a 2.1 sound system and cost $169 as of 3 years ago. I am sure it has dropped prices but the quality remains superb. Here is a review of it

There are more I can recommend but the prices vary a lot... So I need to know what your budget is. =)

I will try help as much as I can. Afterall, my dad is an audiophile. and So am I =P

Very kind of you to offer advice. I was hoping to stay under $100. The room I'm in is rather small. Rectangular shaped about 10 feet wide by 20 feet long. Ceiling height less than 8 feet, wooden floor, persian carpet.

My listening is for music and the TV reception I get on my computer as well as DVDs. I am not a gamer.

Doing a quick search on Amazon.com, there are nice speakers that cost below 100..

If you want a small 2.1 set-up, this is probably one of the nicest speakers you can get for below $100. The Yamaha NS-AW150W 2-Way Indoor/Outdoor Speakers cost just $69.79. Each speaker measures 5.41 x 10.125 x 6.16 inches. It's suitable for leisure music. The link for it : http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-NS-AW150W-Indoor-Outdoor-Speakers/dp/B0001VHARE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1226147319&sr=1-1

The Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker System is a very sweet set up at the cost of $82.24. Its dimensions are 13 x 13 x 12 inches ; 20 pounds. It is very good for listening to music. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-X-540-5-1-Speaker-System/dp/B000JJM8XE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1226146877&sr=1-2

However, if you are willing to pay 10 more dollars above $110...The Logitech G51 5.1 Surround Sound Speakers is an upgrade to the X-540 and cost $110.25. It is a bit larger at 8.5 x 14.3 x 20 inches ; 25 pounds.
Here is the link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-G51-Surround-Sound-Speakers/dp/B000UEH5HC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1226146877&sr=1-3

If you aren't satisfied with these options, just tell me and I will help you look around more. =)

If you are just getting the speakers for your laptop then I would suggest just getting a 2.1 system, as there can be difficulty getting all the speakers in a surround sound system to work off of 1 headphone jack.
