I just decided this is the laptop I want but there is very little information from people who already got it. So if you have this laptop, post all the info you can give about it(benchmarks, images, full reviews) here.

Second! I'm also looking for any reviews without success... And I'm a very similar situation - just about to buy it.

Hey. I'm working on a review for it now. Im using it at this moment. I love it. I got crysis and hit "optimize" and it put it to FULL resolutions and high settings. it runs very well! I was surprised enough to almost crap my pants.

Anyway please ask specific questions. Ill go bench mark it now and come back.
get me on AIM if you want a quicker response from me.

    As for specific questions:
1.What about heat? Is it really hot?
2.What about noise? E.g., if you took it to a library or to lectures, would people object?
3.What about weight? Can you carry it without major problems? Would it be a problem to take it e.g. on daily lectures? I know it is heavier than other laptops. The question arises - how much?
4.What about the design? Is it really nice or it looks like cheap plastic? Is it solid?

Thank you for your help! I'm looking forward to seeing your review.

1.What about heat? Is it really hot?
Not hot at all. Sat with it in my lap. But i have had it plugged in with battery out. I will put the battery in tomorrow and try it out

2.What about noise? E.g., if you took it to a library or to lectures, would people object?
Not loud at all! It actually has a DVD drive quieting function enabled. If you dont have the drive in use it turns it off so it isn't loud. I have that funciton completely off because it hasnt' been loud at all.

3.What about weight? Can you carry it without major problems? Would it be a problem to take it e.g. on daily lectures? I know it is heavier than other laptops. The question arises - how much?
I believe it's 6.9lbs. It's not TOO heavy, then again i've been using a 13.3" vaio for a while.. So this is heavy to me. I would say it is one lb heavier than my g/fs plane jane HP dv2000. I would defintely invest in a laptop backpack, not a one arm sling for this lap top. I have put it in my backpack and skateboarded to class with it once. Not that bad really.

4.What about the design? Is it really nice or it looks like cheap plastic? Is it solid?
Here is my biggest issue. The laptop at first is not the prettiest thing ever. The thing looks really good except the outline of the keyboard. it has a chrome finish ring, that is relatively small except on the top part where the speakers are. There are two LED lights under the plastic next to the speakers which CAN be turned off. It looks cheap and the first day I had it, I was honestly unsatisfied with the laptop. Almost to the point of taking ti back. It reminds me of a Spaceship ****pit. I believe they were trying to go Alienware with it. However after having it for a few days and really laying in on some gaming. I love the design. The palcement of the sound swivel is awesome. The extra keys at the top are wonder ful. Mute, led lights off, webcam, and teh DOLBY sound control. The sound on this is excellent btw.

As for performance. NO HITCHES. Im running VISTA 64 bit. The sound is awesome, i can hear it playing music from two rooms away. Quiet amazing! Vibrant even. The top resolution is 1440x900 so it has really beautiful displays. The screen is severely bright. I turned it down a bit. but it looks wonderful!

Also, I forgot to mention that it is very durable. The middle of the keyboard could be a bit more reinforced, however everything is SOLID. seems very safe and durable. You can push hard ANYWHERE on the back of the screen and see no motion. Very nice sturdy design. Just cosmetic problems.

could you post some benchmarks from some games so we can get a better idea of the 9700m gts' power? And if possible, some videos of the performance.

do you think it will make a difference if I upgrade to 4gb of ram, considering that it's a 64bit OS?

You know, performance wise right now? I don't think so. I'm running 64bit and this thing does not stutter. I was asking my friend who knows a lot more than I about upgrading. What I took from him was it won't matter right now, as most the software isn't even that demanding yet. As far as we've seen on this laptop, that is. I think the extra 1 gb won't do too much right now.

Sorry no review yet Tropical Storm is hititng florida and I only have power ever so often.

I ran the battery for about an hour with it in my lap. It does not get hot at all. I had jersey shorts on, which allow heat transfer very easily. It was very comfortable. The weight of it does not affect a comfortable sit. I still think it weighs a bit, maybe one lb too much. it's a rather thick laptop, but that video card and hdd probably take up a lot of room. I would take this to class and run it.

The batter time, is quite good. I have yet to turn it on Full battery power mode. I leave it in "balanced". It has 3 settings, high performance, balanced, and battery saver. You can adjust each, but the 3 functions seem set up well enough.

Storm is gone. My internet is back, cable company was outside all morning. I am running out for an interview and I have two classes today. I will start in on this review and hopefully have it posted tonight, or tomorrow. Definitely by tomorrow.

Yup, Ill get pics of it. A lot of pics.

It comes with a few bloatware programs. Mainly Trial Norton, Trial Microsoft office, and the extra random Toshiba programs. Config Free and Toshiba DVD player. Not too much, but enough to run a program or use control panel to vanquish some of them.

I'm so pissed right now, this is like the 3rd laptop that isn't available in Europe.
First we can't customize, now we don't even have pre-customized ones as well :(

I so badly want that F55! Seems like the best deal ever, killer GPU! Game on people :p
Only one here is the G50, which sucks for the price compared to this F55!!!

Okay... So no review for a reason. After ten days of having the laptop and extensive use I took it back.

    Reasons:

Number/Mouse pad started to malfunction. Tried reinstalling drivers and updating and playing with settings. Nothing worked. It was faulty from the start.

Keyboard: Had from the start obviously been a cheap design. Which was okay enough for the time but it was obvious was cheap.

Plastics: Along with the cheaper keyboard came bad plastic design. As I stated earlier the laptop has a Plastic ring around the keyboard that is chrome finish. Well the laptop had been closed maybe 10 times in ten days, and i had not taken it anywhere... The plastic was chipping and the finish was coming off. Bad design flaw.

Sound Swivel: A cool idea, and fun to play with. After a week of turning it up and down for music the swivel started to malfunction. I think the "gears" on the inside started to strip and it was skipping while you were twisting up and down. Poor design.

The big thing about was that the design on the plastics were scarey and failed. I am not a fan of cheap plastics that could possibly break.

If you have any questions please let me know. I will answer un bias. I did go pick up the Asus G50 which is 150 cheaper but the CPU is a bit slower. Has more ram and a faster but smaller HDD.

Please PM me or Msg me on AIM if you have any immediate questions.

Bestbuy lists the weight as 6.4 lbs, toshiba says it starts at 8.1 lbs. That's a pretty significant difference, what's the actual figure?

To clarify things... I want to order this US model: F55-Q502, which isn't available on the European market, and ship it to my home.
So if anyone knows a site where I can do this, please let me know, thank you :)

I finally bought this laptop. Had to drive 60 miles to a BestBuy that actually had it :)

I am sending this from the laptop (using the Chrome browser!!! So this is a doubly special moment for me)

I LOVE it so far. Just installed Mass Effect, and it plays perfectly. So fast, and at the high settings for everything.

The FM tuner is very weak (couldn't get a single channel). I still cannot install the GPS because it asks for some serial number of something :)

I am about to install Crysis now :)

I'm seriously considering picking one of these F55's up so I'm highly anticipating the release in the UK. As people have mentioned there's next to no information about it other than the fact it's out 'in the 3rd quarter of 08'.

Since the x300's are starting making an appearance I'm hoping this means the F55 is soon to follow...

Can anyone who's had experience with similar brands tell me if these are good travel laptops...?

Not really because of weight or size but more to do with durability.
I have a Sony Vaio that's currently giving me hardware-related BSOD's and I wonder if taking it across the country and back on trains every week and generally using it in different rooms has upset the delicate pins of the motherboard or something along those lines...

I have another question. Let's say that I choose the 32bit version of vista after the first boot. If I use the recovery disc to restore the laptop, could I choose again, or I am stuck with my first choice?

I Had called Toshiba Direct on changing back to 32 bit if I chose 64 bit and decided I did not like it. The answer was, I would have to call them to walk me through to change it.
I assume, someone with knowledge would know how without having to call them?
