My Toshiba Satellite X205 has this annoying service that puts a dropdown of the FN keys at the top of the screen. The list of keys drops down whenever my mouse cursor is near the top of the screen. I do not ever use FN keys, so this just gets in my way.

Would someone who owns this laptop please be kind enough to tell me which service it is that needs to be disabled so I can get rid of the dropdown?

The software called "Toshiba Value Assist"
I am not sure if it uses services, most likely a user process.

    Just try to uninstall it.

Thank you for the quick response. This can be uninstalled via Control Panel hopefully.

Just returned from uninstall and no longer see those annoying popup buttons. Machine's HDD also seems quieter. I wish Toshiba wouldn't install that bloatware.

Only issue is now you don't know what the volume is set to. :(

It's Toshiba Flash Cards. You can disable them from starting up by running msconfig and preventing them from starting up. I got rid of them too on my Toshiba, they really slowed things down.
Just set the volume to maximum or 90% on the system and control the volume with the external volume dial. How card can that be?

Thanks for the help. They were annoying. I never use FN keys. As for my volume, I have a knob on the front. I was actually surprised there was a volume knob on the laptop. Seems a bit retro.

    Thanks to all who replied.
