Hi, I have had my Toshiba Satellite laptop for quite a while now and i am having problems and have been for a while where while playing any game, doesnt seem to matter what one old or new my FPS spikes from high(ill use Wolrd of warcraft as an example) 50-60 fps to 5-20 fps, every few seconds, causing my game to skip. i wouldnt care if it was a constant 20 or 50-60 i just want to stop the spikes! someone told me it could be a heat problem so i got a new cooling pad but that did not help. i have put a normal room fan up to it and that helped but did not seem to 100% fix the problem, someone else told me to clean my fans with some compressed air ecause it may be a airflow problem but im not sure if that will help. This is driving me MAD please help!

    here are my laptops specs
    17" Toshiba Satellite
    Running Windows Vista
    Intel Core 2 duo T7200 2.0GHz
    NVIDEA GeForce go 7600
    2 gigs of RAM

    hope this is enough info.
    Thanks alot!

It will definitely help. No matter how much cooling you do to your computer on the outside, if the fans inside are not clean and can do their job properly you will never fix your problem. I have seen a huge difference in temps with doing this, and so have many many other people.

I am not sure if this will give you any insight. If the spike is happening on a consistent interval, it could be your cpu running a background program that is spiking causing it to use 100% of the cpu. I was playing UT 2007 on my Asus, and I realize that the frame and sound stutter or skip every 2-4 minute. Afterward I realize that some vista program used to manage my USB drivers was using/causing the CPU to spike to 100% every 2-4 minute. After I remove the usb the game ran smoothly.

Ok, well ill try that, but im not sure if i still have warranty to get it done professionally, if not do i have to take alot of stuff off to get at the fans? im not great with laptops and dont wanna have to dig through alot of stuf to clean the fans.

and the reason i wasnt sure if it would work is because it has been a problem for allmost as long as i have had my computer.

    Thanks!

Usually you just pop a cover off the bottom and you will get to the fans.

Had a very similar problem. Opening up the body work and cleaning out the gpu fan did it for me. Dropped my gpu temp from around 90c to 55c average when playing most modern fps games.

Here are instructions on how to disassemble most toshiba latops.

By looking at your specs I'm assuming you have a P100/P105? This is a known issue ( the lag spikes) and can be fixed with the latest BIOS. head over to toshiba's website and download BIOS version 4.20. This should completely fix the problem. Trust me, i had the same issue.

It took Toshiba 11 months (from Feb 07 to Dec 07) to finally release a working BIOS that wasnt ****. And Toshiba wonders why people think they have crappy support....
