I have a Tecra M3-S336! The Fan Runs Constantly to keep things Cool.

It's running about half speed most of the time.

    There is sometime three modes.

1.) Fan is Not on at all =(Just Desktop to Windows & Internet Explorer Open!)
    After First turn-on!
2.) Fan on Low = multiple Internet Explorer Pages & DVD being Played - Good!
Most of the Time (Low, Not Hot at all!) Setting-on your Lap or Legs will
    get burn some over time!
3.) Fan on High = (Window XP Serv Pack 2 - Automatic Updates, Disk - Data Reading)

Is this usual for a Tecra M3! Or Not!
I read a Review that the Tecra or Toshibas are prone to Running Hotter!

It runs lots warmers/louder than my IBM ThinPad T60 (However, Brand New) & my Tecra M3 is 2 years old!

    Any solutions:

    Setting adjustments or Software!

How old is the notebook, and has it done this since day one, or just recently begun?

I know Toshiba's power management software has a silent operation mode, although this used to make my Satellite lock up (but that laptop had lots of issues)...

2 years old! I have had it a month! I have used the exact model at work, corporate machines. The Fan came on, but not constant. You could not heard it.

The Fan just does not shut-off.

Now, I did just do a Clean Install of XP Pro + the Win updates to XP Pro Serv Pack 2.

Before the Windows install, Fan did not come on. But no O/S!

Some people suggest actually taking the heatsink out and cleaning it by hand. I would simply suggest using a canister of compressed air to spray it out. With the heatsink in your hand, it will be much easier to clear out any dust inside.
