If you're one of the lucky ones who decided they don't like Vista and want to go back to the good ole' XP OS...but you're pulling your hair out trying to find drivers, try this.
1.) Get THE LATEST version of XP, and I mean update the piss out of it (Service Pack 2 is a must)
2.) Next download the chipset drivers from the manufacturer's website (most likely Intel)
3.) Download the graphics card drivers from the manufacturer (possibly Intel or ATI)
4.) You may use the drivers from an earlier model Toshiba for your Multi-Card reader (if you have one)
5.) For the audio, the drivers from the Vista driver disk are the only ones that will work 100% correctly. As with also the 56k modem, the drivers are on the disk.
6.) If you have a built-in Webcam, you want to google for the Chicony DC-100 webcam drivers, they will do the trick.

Hope this helps out people as I've spent the last couple days pulling my own hair out about all this!

Which model do you have? I bought a a205-s4607 and have downgraded to XP. I've been able to find most of the drivers but have yet to find a useable one for the built in webcam, including the dc-100 driver. Any suggestions?

    I successfully install to my A135 S4527 with Windows 2003 R2, Windows 2008 Longhorn and Ubuntu 7.04.

The only problem in windows 2003 R2 is the device [ACPI\TOS1900\2&DABA3FF&0]
I think it might be the function keys.

I believe you need to search the Intel site based on the name of the chip set itself. I found XP drivers for my Sattellite A135 by searching on "Mobile Intel 943GML" which is given on the "Detailed Product Specification" for my machine on the Toshiba site.

    http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/CS-022034.htm
Thats the link for the Mobile Intel® 943GML Express Chipset drivers...

I've already asked this question in a previous post, but nobody answered, so Im gonna ask it here :p

Im talking about a Satellite A135-S4527....

Do I have to disable the SATA interface from the BIOS when Im about to start the xp installation? Im saying this because when I downgraded a pavilion laptop, I had to do this... After I finished I installed the SATA drivers and then I enabled SATA from the BIOS again.. I imagine that I need to do this since xp doesnt have sata compatibility (at the moment of installation), but Im asking anyways...

Second question, I presume that infinst_autol.exe contains among other thingies, the sata drivers needed..... Is this correct? Also, when I looked for the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, I saw this: Intel® Matrix Storage Manager... Do I need to install this too? I remember I installed this on the pavilion... so I guess I should do the same for the toshiba

Thanks a lot and I hope I get an answer soon!!!

Can I get an answer please!!!!! The satellite is not mine, thats why Im asking.. If it were mine, I would've done it by now..

I searched the forum but nobody talks about the installation, all the threads are about driver issues... So please, give me a hand!!

    Thanks!

Hang in there bud...I'm in the middle of back-stepping my A135-4999 to XP..A starting point is to go to the Toshiba UK site and look through the specs on the Tosbiba units there. Most of those systems use XP. Try to match up one to your A135. That site has all the XP drivers available but they are a bit tricky to inatall. There is an "Installation" instructions on each download page giving the install order for the apps. I have also found that most of the drivers and utilities on the Tosbiba cd will also work in XP.

    Hello everyone,

It's really nice to see people that have the same idea as me. Switching from Vista to XP. :D

Anyways, I've been reading this thread and I've been wondering if anyone had done a Toshiba Satellite A-135-S4666, I just bought his thing and I HATE VISTA!!. I'm going to take a gigantic leap into doing this and I'm going to take the very post on this thread into consideration.

    Any advice, please?

    Thanks In Advance,

    StomperX :)

I just " Upgraded" my p105-s9337 - 800 pound Gorilla ( nVidia 7900 GS and Vista fiasco ) to XP SP2. Note follow exact instructions steps as specified in UK site. ( specially WiFi drivers). Also you may have to install Microsoft Hotfix for audio card.

We put XP PRO on a Toshiba A135-S2356 a week ago and once I added SP2 and ALL updates today.. I rebooted and it auto found the drivers. Audio ..etc .. It works perfectly!

I am not sure if XP PRO offers something regualr XP doesnt, but its a thought if you have a new Toshiba w/ Vista.

    Good luck!

    In ref to infinst_autol.exe

When I ran this program I get a message: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit.

My laptop is L35-S2366 with Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor T-2060.

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks

I just downgraded from Vista to XP on 5107 and all is well now. Vista sucks big time and is a resource hog on this 2 gigger. Yes, I did do a clean without all the Toshiba crapware. I might as well go to Ubuntu instead of Vista.

In my case (Sli3 ) you have to install the Microsoft KB888111 fix to get XP to recognize the HDAudio bus, and THEN xp will recognize your audio card and your modem. Then, the Toshiba modem drivers worked just fine. Without the hotfix, XP doesn't even recognize the devices.

I have everthing in my Sli3 working just fine at this point.

A reminder : before you wipe out Vista and install XP, take a detailed inventory of the hardware devices so you can search for the XP drivers and have the drivers ready for install. I just wanna share with you two free utilities that I use to document hardware devices :

    CPU ID
    PC Wizard

    Hope that helps.
