I may sound like a noob asking this....but here goes anyway. Instead of using the "supplied" DVD's to reinstall my 105 Sattelite 's OS and software to like new condition-can I just install an XP MCE OS that I own -and leave off all the other stuff that is installed. Has anyone done this and what can I look forward to ? Will this be more trouble than its worth ?I only have the 80GB hdd so I can save some much needed space, plus there is a lot of clutter installed with these two DVD's . I know I will need some of the programs but I can pick and choose which ones I need to install....cant I ?
help anyone ???
thanks in advance,

Yes you can, but it will be a lot of work.
If you don't have another partition on your HDD, you would most likely have to wipe everything.
If you do, its just finding all the software, the sata driver and to restore the bootup OS registry entries. -
I am almost finished wiping the hdd....over 7 hours so far...wiping it clean. I built my own desktop so I understand a bit of what you said....but I also know laptops are a different animal also. Would you know of a walk-thru posted anywhere that would help me.....??? Wouldnt Windows automaticly load a certian amount of the necessary software ? Unless I can find a walk-thru or at least gain a more clear understanding....I may have to go back to the way it was shipped to me. Maybe I can stop it from loading all the fluff somehow....
Thanks for your quick reply...you were a big help(that may sound sarcastic but believe me it wasnt.....I appreciate your reply !)

OK...I finally got it done ! It wasnt so bad. Just had to double check everything before I installed it. I got most from my restore disc, then some other items from here ( http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...ivateItems=undefined&all_docs=false&x=52&y=10) . Its a Toshiba download site....very helpful. Anyway....its different and I do have more of my 80gb hddd to store stuff I want. Thanks Allan for your help.
