Hi all, Purchased a Toshiba L505D series without hard drive. Purchased 300 gig the type that came with this model. Installed Win 7 and after a few days decided to downgrade to Win XP Pro. I noticed the Function key didn't operate anything with Win 7 including the two F keys that controlled the brilliance levels. After installing Win XP Pro still noticed the Fn keys still didn't operate anything.
I successfully downloaded the driver files for the chipset, graphics, sound, wlan and network drivers. I also downloaded from Toshiba many other driver files that perform a host of different tasks and a few wouldn't even install for unknown reasons. My task bar was full of start up icons which really concerned me, Ive been running XP Pro for years with a fairly clean install so I formatted again and installed Win XP with the above basic drivers and all works well.
My problem is still that my Function Keys are inoperative, for example I am unable to adjust my brilliance levels. There doesn't seem to be any settings in the BIOS set up that mentions function keys so I feel I'm missing a driver file. Before I start installing a gambit if files I thought I would ask if anyone knows what is the necessary file I need to be able to use my function keys.
Anyone with this series of laptop must have had this problem so I am looking forward to hearing from you with a file name.
Many thanks for any help....
