Hey guys, looking for some help.

I attempted to fix a G-25 with a garbled screen. It would boot up but everything on the screen was unrecognizable. It would give me the windows loading screen then turn blank. Sometimes it would shut off.

I recently just replaced the motherboard with one from ebay and the screen issue is fixed (thank god). But now it will boot up, get to windows, log in and then shut down. If I try to turn it on again it will try to turn on then shut off.

Is this an overheating problem? What could be the culprit? I don't have much experience with repairing laptops, but I'd like to salvage this one if I can.

    Any help is appreciated.

I suspect that it is an overheating problem. If you haven't cleaned out your fans and heatsink of dust, do so. Accumulated dust from years of use can have a big effect on the running temperature of the notebook.

Also, when you pulled it apart to replace the motherboard, did you seat the heatsink and fan assembly properly, making contact with the CPU and GPU?

    Thanks for the respones, Shadow.

The heatsink and fans were both clean of dust. Could it be the fan(s) are not spinning fast enough?

When I reassembled everything I cleaned off the CPU, GPU and video card with rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip and reapplied new thermal grease to all three and reassembled as required.

Hmm, difficult. Is it possible to get into Windows long enough to run a temperature measuring utility?
