    G55 - Availability mid August or Sooner?

    I just got off the phone with ToshibaDirect and they say they are taking pre-orders for the G55 but don't expect to ship or have them readily available until early August. They also said that in a weeks time they will know what retailers will stock it--retailers may get it before toshibadirect.com? I know its available to pre-order on jr.com, onsale.com, and toshibadirect.com.

    I called 2nd level tech support to get more specs regarding how the Toshiba HD processor works (i.e. does it require special coded software to engage?)--does it seamlessly work with Sorenson, CCE, AVID, TMPGEnc, and other encoders/transcoders/rendering software? How exactly does the Toshiba HD processor work with the GPU & CPU? I also wanted to know what hard drive make and model no. it ships with, as well as, the screen brightness--how many nits? The tech rep was very friendly, but unfortunately Toshiba doesn't have any info internally available to any of my Q's. I guess we will have to wait for a full blown review to learn if this lappy has got the goods.
