I spoke w/ several Toshiba sales reps & couple of 'phone answering' " tech support" people. One issue was for customized laptops, that offer option of 2 HDDs, but you opt not to pay for a 2nd HDD when it ordered, will the 2nd HDD connections be there for later on?

Answers were all over the map. Depending on who was answering, I got:
"Absolutely not. If you don't order a 2nd HDD, they won't build the connections in so one can be added later."

    "Yes, probably."

    "I'm not sure."

"Yes, unless you order it in a month w/ an "R" in it."
(I just made the last one up :) )

    1) So, can you order a customized Toshiba w/ 2nd HDD bay connections & a mobo that'll support a 2nd one?

    2) How do you get them to do it, and does it wind up costing as much as ordering the 2nd drive anyway?

Yes, wolfraider, you can definitely customize toshiba laptops at toshibadirect.com. And phkhgh (wow, your name is easily pronounced, lol! ;) ),
I have been wondering about the same thing, because I am thinking of buying a P200. And I tried calling tech support and sales, and kept getting different answers. And I posted on NBR, nobody seemed to know. Then I tried looking at some disassembly pics ( http://www.irisvista.com/tech/ )for the A105 and P105 which also have dual harddrive options, and frankly, I can't see where a second hard drive could fit!
I am a bit confused too! :(

wow im amazed in one site "toshiba.com" they write what i said while they are the opposite in the toshibadirect. i think its weird.
ANyway about the HDD they maye unplug the dvd or something like that to get space but if you dont get it cant you just complain.
i can upgrade my hdd but it will cost me my dvd player i do not know however of any laptops that have a free hddslot to upgrade

Well, the A100/200 and P100/200 series are definitely supposed to be able to have dvd supermulti drive + 2 hard drives. So taking out the optical drive does not seem to be the solution.
