Ok, I'm ready to overclock the GPU on my X505 Q892 which has a GTX 460m. I've played with overclocking in the past with my other laptop, but never really delved in to deep. Infact I've logged maybe 2 hours just changing the settings like twice through Nvidia Control Panel and seeing how my games performed, then I changed back to factory clocks, because I was worried that overclocking was the cause of the Nvidia card failures in the past.

I would like to know if any X505 owners have overclocked their 460m GPUs and if it's a stable setting that could be used everyday. If you could also go into detail of how you tested, and what software you used to confirm it's a safe overclock. I'm thinking about just doing it through the Nvidia control panel. Thanks.

Audi, I forgot who was it that gave me overclock settings awhile back for the X505 with GTX 460m. Was it you? I was trying to search for the thread, but the search on this forums is busted (doesn't work at all). Anyway I thought it was Alex, but couldn't find the thread. Anyway I really don't want to download an overclock software just yet. I want to keep it simple and just use the Nvidia Control Panel's device settings which does seem to feature an overclock tool.

In the Nvidia Control Panel in the left pane under Performance>Device settings there are options to change the clock speeds. I'm not sure what version of Nvidia Control Panel shipped with the notebook but I installed Nvidia System Monitor and also updated display drivers. I'm currently using 265.89 from laptopvideo2go.com, since they are Toshiba drivers.

I installed the same drivers as you did but I do not see a performance option on the left pane in Nvidia Control Panel.
Although I am using a x505-q893 so essentially we have the same machine.
I haven't oc my card much (very little over stock hah) but was running stable at 700/1400/1300.

I also still can't find a way to disable 2d mode (playing games at 203/405/324 is horrible) while running on battery mode which is really disappointing to me >_<.

The nvidia control panel options, must've been enhanced with Nvidia System Monitor. I installed the latest version, I believe 6.06 is the version I'm using to monitor temps and usage, and it probably also added the extra option settings into the control panel. If not that the other drivers I've tried that maybe added the extra options in control panel, were 266.35 beta downloaded from nvidia and modified using inf from laptopvid2go, and 265.77 which I found from Toshiba download site under laptop>Qosmio>x500-q930s, I think it's on the 3rd page look for display driver. Either than that I don't know what else installed the extra options. Hmmm, although I did install nhancer awhile back, maybe that enhanced the control panel settings with an overclock feature?

Is this the cause for not being able to game on battery power? How do you access 2d mode? I sure hope it is, and thanks for clueing me in, I'll look into this and report back if you found out anything else about this situation.

Running max clocks on battery will ultimately destroy it because of the power draw. Locked 2d clocks is not a flaw, it is there one to save battery and two, why would you play games on battery anyways?
