I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on this Toshiba notebook found here:

Do you think this is a good deal?

i wouldn't recommend if you are into heavy gaming like everything in high and recent games since graphic sucks (it can run old games though)
but if you like to use it as just for working than it would be fine -
ok but do u think this is a good deal?
-
I think its a pretty good deal. I think that you should stick with the HP, though. You can't do much with that graphics card. HP offers way more for a lower price. I think whats nice about the computer is that it hols up to 4Gb RAM, but thats about it.
-
I'm not real big on 4200 RPM HDs and would prefer to see a T5500 in there, but for $900 it's not a bad buy. If I'm remembering correctly though, you're looking for a gaming system though.
I'd recommend you stack that up against an HP dv6000t or Dell e1505 to see what you can get for a similar price from them. -
yup those are the 2 notebooks im debating between!!!
I'm gunna be gamin a little (if i can, then Half life 2)...
but im mosly gunna be working on my site, listing to music, watching movies (maybe a litte), but most of all surfing the net... also ill be working on macromedia dreamweaver, fireworks, and flash!
What do you think about those 2?
The dell is a little cheaper (i can get 2 gb ram), but the hp is a nicer, and has a mic/webcam in it...
so for now ill stick with the hp dv6000t ...
what is you opinion?
-MATT -
The HP has a definite better Build Quality, but are just a little mo're expensive for what you get. Dell and HP are close competitors, though, so you can excpect a small difference in quality. I think both systems are more thean edequate for what you want to do, its just you personal preferance.

I just found a 20% off coupon for the dell, so now im considering it...

You can add RAM later, but of course the 2GB will be better if you wont be updating for awhile. Its up to you though...But can't you customize your HP for 2 GB?
-
yeah i can but its like $150 more, and that makes it over my budget... :/
man those dell coupons sure do make you want to buy a dell! -

OK, my turn! I have been lurking here for a month or so trying to learn about laptops. I decided to buy my wife one for Christmas. It will be here Monday. Is this a good deal? My wife and I are not gamers, but she will be multitasking for work and will be photoshoping pictures. Will this work well? We will have a wireless network in our home so she can connect to the internet (Wireless-G).

yes that will work wonderful for what she will be doing. She should love it!
Have you checked out the coupons for the dell e1505? You can save a lot if you put in some coupon codes... -
I couldn't use any coupons and there are no rebates. The total cost when I did this on New Years Day was $2,024 plus tax. I complained on the phone that HP and Gateway had better deals and Gateway offered 667Mhz clock speeds on their RAM (I only wanted 1Gb) and Dell only offered this clock speed at 2Gb. I also noted that for less money Gateway offered the T5500 instead of the T2050 Dell offers. One thing led to another and I ended up with the higher chip and memory, a 7,200RPM hard drive, and 3 yr warranty thrown in at no additional charge. Before tax the price was $1,470.90 (or something close to that). This is the 8th Dell I've bought (first laptop EVER!) and they always seem willing to negotiate if you can prove you can do better elsewhere. My current desktop is a 2.8 Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading and 800Mhz FSB with 1Gb 800Mhz memory, dual burners, a 240Gb 7,200RPM hard drive and an Nvidia 5200 256Mb card. I think this new laptop may smoke this desktop, even though this is faster than it was new.

That sounds like a good buy. My final price for my Toshiba was $2183.20 USD for the below conf. and I have been playing Battlefield 2142 but it doesn't play well if I set the game's visual setting to high?

Clif (FreewareWiki) and I bought twin Toshiba's for $525 and $620 last year. Clif and I have learned long ago to beware the new release on anything, and that includes operating systems. Neither of us are impressed with WinVista and we refuse to upgrade, for now and if ever. Only one of our friends has bought a Vista system and now she's sorry.
Toshiba A105-S2081, Intel Celeron M Processor 380, 1.6Ghz, (maxed to 2gb RAM DDR2 for less than $100 for both PCs), 40g 5400rpm HD, CD-RW/DVD ROM, 15.4" TrueBright (WXGA), ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, Atheros 802.11 b/g wireless-LAN, CD control buttons (Run CDs/DVDs without logging in).
The WinVista OS has known failing problems or intense issues with hardware fixes. Perhaps, not many people have had these problems but I tell you where it stings for me. I just hope that our military folk will be posting these aggravating issues soon. But, I've been hearing how some military people have bought the Vista PCs, basically for contacting family and friends, and when they have these issues there's a lack of tech-help there to help them get their PCs running again. So they're SOL since they have to wait for 'leave' which is usually weeks later, and they can't return the PCs because the 30-day period has past by the time they've had a system shutdown and their 'leave' comes around again. With the software laws enforced, they cannot order a WinXP CD while the PC is out of the USA. To me, this sort of thing is so upsetting to hear since our military is already under tremendous pressure and so far from home and familiar things. This is what flips my stomach about Microsoft and Vista. So, no, right now I don't much care how much money Bill Gates has donated. This wrong runs much deeper than all of the rights. You may understand this better if you knew that I'm also a military brat (A child of a military retiree). ~ Bec
Good buy?
