Gentlemen, I have a problem. I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960 with a RealTek Audio something or another and......I'm not technically advanced enough to figure out what's going on with this thing. I've connected an HDMI cable to my Vizio TV and the picture is great coming from the computer but there's no sound. I've been hooking a headphone jack into the optical output on the computer and running it into my surround sound and it's been working but....shouldn't the sound stream through the HDMI?? I've been on a hell-bent quest to find an answer to this question on google for the past 2 hours and nothing has worked....so, I've come to the experts for advice. If you have any answers for me, I'd appreciate them greatly. I'd appreciate answers with explanations even more. Thank you all.
Mike

Ooops, running windows 7 64-bit.

Right click the speaker/volume icon near the clock and go to 'Playback devices.' Can you pick HDMI there for audio?
-
No, sir. Even if I unhide them all I only have two options. Realtek and speakers.

Found this while doing a quick search: http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/377590-a300-305-hdmi-audio-out-problem-w-ati-3650-graphics-card.html
Might be worth a look.
Notice, the driver linked in that post is for an A300 Satellite.
**EDIT**
Here's the U.S. support page for your specific model. Might find some useful info there.
