I have lost my S/PDIF device and cant figure out how to get it back. I connected my laptop to my tv and i was trying to use my s/pdif out for audio out to my receiver (i had no luck). Anyway i finally gave up and when i unhookd my laptop from the tv i my laptop speakers did not work. I went to the sound control panel and there are 3 options HDMI, Speakers, & spdif. Spdif was checked and so i opened it up and clicked on "disable this device" thinking that it would just put a red "X" on it and defalt back to my speakers. When i did this the "S/PDIF" option was deleted. Now i only have the HDMI & Speaker options. Now that it is to late I have noticed the "set default button". My question is how in the world to i get the S/PDIF option back. I went into Device Manager and found nothing. I cant belive that it would just delete it. I would have thought it would have just greyed it out or put a big red X on it. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Oh and if anyone knows how to use the SPDIF out to get 5.1 discrete channels to a surroud reciver I would appreciate it. I was trying a stereo 3.5mm cable with a RCA jack on one end and i pluged it into my Digital Coax In on my reciever. I have learned though that the spdif is an optical connection and im not sure if that will work with the analog Digital Coax. Thanks again for any help.

    Omega,

Right-click one of the devices still visible, and on the popup menu, select "Show Disabled Devices." That should bring it back to your list of choices.

Are you referring about the SPDIF option on Sound Properties?

I lost my HDMI for a while as well. Just reinstall the stock drivers from the support website. It should give you back all three audio outputs. On another note... has anyone noticed that the last few audio drivers from Realteks website dork up our microphone?
