Hi - my boss's laptop slipped off he's hands, thus damaging the heads of the HDD,
In an effort to recover the contents from the HDD, we've been advised to source the same size HDD so, as to facilitate data transfer.

Does anyone know which other Toshiba Model uses same size HDD as Portege R700 14M ?

    Pls hlp.

To be absolutely sure, remove old drive from laptop. Several drives may be used in a years time.

Professional data recovery is very expensive. Your old plater is removed and set into a clean room drive using their recovery drive heads and software. It sounds like your getting advice from one of the many software recovery vender's. To be honest, and search the web, they are usually a big fail and waste of time...or you might get lucky?

If your data is mission critical and worth the money, seek help from several professional recovery centers. The other route would be move along and buy/use one or more back up drives for work files.

You mean capacity? Just get whatever 2.5" hard drive that has the same capacity. Having the same exact HDD model isn't critical, and besides it's probably a Seagate/WD/Toshiba anyway.

If the damage is really bad, and it's work-critical stuff, you'll just have to pay the big bucks for professional data recovery. If you can get an external HDD dock ( like this) and the drive is accessible from another computer, that'll be great and you'll be able to copy data over to the other computer.

LOL, the scary part is WHO told him he needs to have the same size hard drive!!???

As stated, NO ONE can tell you the exact drive used as these will change with suppliers and country. I would take a flying guess and say it's a Toshiba 500Gig drive, 5400rpm. You cannot remove your old drive? Also check the original invoice as this is stated on mine.
