It's 3:28 in the morning and I can't seem to get this problem solved. My qosmio has a tv button as well as a dvd-cd button adjacent to the power button. When these buttons are pressed when the computer is in off mode only the TV should be turning or only the DVD player should be turning on. But when I push the TV or the DVD button windows start booting. I tried it with the remote and no matter what I try the whole freegin computer starts booting up. Can anyone help me? The answer must be pretty simple but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere in the manual. Thank you.

Here's a quick tutorial which explains how to fully install the media button drivers, modules etc - and overcome some other common problems.

    Obtained from http://www.conceptex.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1

    Quote:

Here's a little problem I recently encountered & solved. When I did a bit of research (meaning a lot of research) on the Internet, I found that a lot of people were having the same or similar problems but no-one had a solution.

    Hope it helps someone!

    Problem:

Toshiba Qosmio (possibly other) Media/Control Buttons do not work.
Toshiba Common Modules Setup.exe does nothing, just hangs in Task Manager.

    Most likely also fixes:
    Media Buttons Driver Qosmio
    Media Buttons Qosmio Dont Work
    Qosmio Media Buttons Driver
    Qosmio Media Buttons Install

    Solution:

Maybe Toshiba drivers were installed in the wrong sequence, this seems to cause some errors, or maybe it's just an inexplicable error.

    Software needed:

    Process Explorer (Procexp.exe)
This little program is basically an advanced Task Manager.
    Download from Here

    Toshiba Drivers
Obviously you need the drivers for your laptop!
    http://support.toshiba.com

    Once you have the program:

Run the common modules setup (obtained from above Toshiba website) then open Proecxp.exe.

This will show you what is running.

Look for a file that is like zcfg.exe, described as an MFC Application.
    Kill it.
You can kill it by right clicking on it and selecting the option, or highlighting it and pressing the Delete key.
Oh, and don't worry - it's not a harmful program, it just causes a bit of a problem here.

When you kill (close) this program you will notice a couple of tmp files spawn from Setup.exe (which is the common modules setup).
It would appear that zcfg.exe was freezing the Toshiba Modules Setup.exe by restricting it's access and not being able to extract required files.

You will then be able to set it up from there on follow the instructions.
Proceed to install the Toshiba Controls (from the Toshiba website again) and all your media keys should work!

    Regards!
