    HELP: Toshiba Portege R100 Screen quality?

    Need it ASAP...

    Colleagues,

    Anybody has real experience and expertize on laptop TFT screen quality?
    I am looking for Portege R100 which is just a wonderful design with probably the best keyboard. You can work with it!
    I am ready to get it. And MUST do it within a couple of days.

    Yesterday I killed a couple of hours carefuly looking for the screen -with my texts, figures, pictures. It looks like it is, let say, not the best one. Even the same 12" 1024-768 Sony looks better/a bit more clear and distinctive (and more saturated - it is about pictures) in fine details.

    Is it a bad unit that I found in the nearest BestBuy or it is true?

    Alternative is Sony S-150, which finaly came... and too heavy. (I am not even discuss a keyboard again.)

    Well, I don't know about this unit in particular, but I have seen Toshiba's side-by-side with HP and found that the HP LCD's were a lot brighter and sharper. The Toshiba LCD's do seem a bit "dull" throughout their line IMO, but then again, the demo units I'm looking at could have been sitting there for a while compared to the HP's so their backlights may have dimmed in time. This may also be the case with this R100. See if you can goto a different store and check it out.

    It has also been my opinion that Toshiba screens are not up to par with other manufacturer's screens. Especially when you compare the upgraded screens on Sonys and HPs. The rest of it, though, runs with the pack.
