    Hi

I seem to have a cooling fan problem. Yesterday I got a warning saying it was not working properly and I should send it in for service. The health monitor shows the fan is constantly going from 0%-5%-11%-0% and the CPU temp has crept up to 65% after a few hours use while the internal temp is 55%. THe fan diagnostic confirms it's not working properly

I have seen on a few forums that fan issues can sometimes be fixed by bios updates...but no updates are available.

Has anybody else had this issue and how did they fix it. I know i might have to get the fan changed but I would rather try other solutions first

    thanks

Oh, the heading should be R835

It could be that the fans/vents are clogged with dust. You can try using compressed air [can buy at your local retailer], and use short burts of air to get some of the dust out.

If there is a considerable amount of dust, you may have to open your laptop to clean it. However, if you are under warranty, DO NOT attempt this as it will likely void your warranty. You may have to send it in to Toshiba.

Also, try using a utility like HWmonitor [it's small and free] as it will give us the EXACT temperatures [anything near 100 Celsius is going to cause problems].

I did a few searches and found a thread that has some insight. It will get rid of the warning messages but the underlying probem will remain. This thread [see link] has some users that state uninstalling the "Value Added Package" from Toshiba will get rid of the cooling warnings. However, it is still best to clean out your vents/fans of dust as that alone will lower your operational temperatures.
