    Hello there.

I'm new around here, so hello to everyone :D

I recently bought a Satellite L735 and it still has the recalled HM65 revision B2... My question is since the bug only affects the SATA 3Gbps ports is there a way to check which port my DVD reader and HDD are using? Or is it better to return the laptop?

No, Toshiba refuses to recall my model, it insists saying "there is no problem with your chipset"

    Thanks!

When was your laptop manufactured? Does your entire model name end in "X"? For example, mine is: Toshiba Qosmio q8102 X. The "X" is an indicator it has the fixed Cougar Point 3 chipset. [**EDIT**- Let me clarify, if it was manufactured near February 2011, it will have an X; if it was manufactured after mid-summer it won't have an "X"]

Anything after mid-February should be fine. Recall was initially January 31st 2011 [almost a year ago]. Fixed laptops started shipping in March.

Don't trust 3rd party chipset programs; they have been shown to not always be accurate on this problem. Have you checked the BIOS? Maybe you need a BIOS update to show the true ID revision [also a solution to some manufacturers].

There's a number of factors at play. It can have the Couger Point 3 "fixed" chipset and still show Chipset 2. I would just go by the 2 factors above: does the model name end in "X" and was it manufactrued after mid-Feb.

    Good luck

    Thanks for the quick reply.

It does not have a X in its name... And is there a way to find out the manufacture date besides calling to the support line? Since I really didn't enjoy talking to them...

I will try to check if there is an update to the BIOS and proceed with the update and check if the ID changes

    Hello again.

Well, I've updated the BIOS and the device ID it's still the same (REV_04). But something has changed... Yesterday I ran the Gigabyte Intel Series 6 SATA checker and it only showed 1 device connected to the SATA ports, and that port was the first one, so theoretically it should be fine. But at that time I wondered where was the other device since it has a HDD and an Optical Drive.

Just in case after I updated the BIOS I've ran the same application again and now it does show 2 devices but... one of them is connected to one of the faulty SATA ports. Is the application trustworthy?

Well, the big question is... What should I do? Return the laptop?

Besides the Part Number, Serial Number and the Barcode. There is this:

"1E/+1/PRPT" - PRPT should be my country "Portugal". The rest I don't know...

This is everything there is the back of the laptop. And of course the Windows key.

Sorry, forgot Toshiba doesn't have teh date on bottom.

    Goto this page: Global Entitlement

Type in your serial # and model-part #. It will give your laptop specifics AND the warranty expiration date. If you had the 1 yr warranty, just count back 1 year from the expiration date [just an approximation]. Can't think of any other way to get the exact date.

I just tried it with an old Toshiba Satellite and it worked; gave me an expiration date of "Warranty Expiration Date: Apr 10, 2004" which gives me an approx manufacture date of 4/10/2003.

    Keep us posted.

Well since I bought the laptop last week it will not give a good estimation eheh, that's why I have the option of returning the laptop for a full refund... And I guess the support will not give me the manufacture date :|

Sorry, I overlooked the "recently" from your first post. If you just bought it last week from a major retailer, I think you will be fine.

My laptop still says B2 stepping, though it had the "X" verification that it was fixed [my laptop has 4 SATA ports]; like I said Toshiba stopped using the "X" after the summer.

However, if you do return it and decide on a different brand, I would expect the same "issue" to exist as long as the notebook is "Sandy Bridge".
