Prior to this thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...market-upgrades/637179-best-ram-upgrade.html), I upgraded my RAM to 8GB from 4GB on my Toshiba Satellite A665-11Z and it all went well... until I tried out sleep mode.
Whenever I put my laptop into standby, and then switch it back on, the fans on on full speed for around 4-5 seconds and then a hard shutdown follows. Putting in the original RAM back in fixes it, using 1 old stick and 1 new stick also fixes it. I've read around the internet and it seems that disabling USB legacy emulation fixes the problem, I've tried this, and it doesn't.
Anyone have any ideas?![]()

What kind of RAM did you use [manufacture and speed?]. Sounds like the RAM might not be fully compatible [I hear Toshiba laptops can be fussy with some brands].

The RAM should work; the speed is supported.
Might be worth checking to make sure you have the latest BIOS; which could fix the addressed issue.

Good luck -
Aye, I did that too with no luck.
I think I'll just have to live without standby and rack up the power bill. It does seem to be a common problem with this series and 8GB RAM. -
i put corsair RAM into my R700 (portege) and it didn't like it, kept hanging and BSOD
so i sold the corsair and put 8gb of crucial in instead, its worked perfectly ever since.
so to hazard a guess, i'd say some tosh's don't like corsair ram! -

Dunno what to do now, I can't find any of the retailers I shop at that sells Crucial RAM. And Crucial direct is a lot more expensive.
I'll just have to live with it I guess. :/ Unless they fix it in a BIOS update which is extremely unlikely knowing Toshiba. This is probably my last ever Toshiba laptop. Had enough of them now. -
i got my crucial memory from Misco (uk based) and it was a little bit cheaper than the corsair.
