My wife just bought a Toshiba Satellite A300-047 15.4" laptop, its not bad. I've had/have a couple of HPs.

So I have a couple spare SATA 2.5 HDDs and was going to stick one in the second empty hard drive bay. I open it up and not only is it needing a caddy but looks like the adapter part that plugs in to the hard drive for data and power is also missing. I took the cover off the C drive to compare whats missing in the second drive bay.
That adapter part in the C hard drive side looks to also be screwed to the board from the other side, I can see the bottom of the 2 screws looking at me from that small plastic connector thats plugged in to the hard drive.
Would there be a adapter part that can be screwed in through the spare hard drive bay itself, in to the board? I see some contacts in the empty drive bay, I assume are contacts, where the adapter part would mount. Is this right?

Is this right or is there an easy way to do this? Thanks.

I have a mainboard out of an A215 and the adapter is not only screwed to the board, it is also soldered. The contacts where the 2nd adapter would go on the board are filled with solder. I don't know where you would find an adapter for sale. If you did get one, you would still have to pull your board out and solder it on and hope you didn't ruin it.

Thanks. Yes I had already just determined this is a lot harder than it looked. I guess Toshiba was saving a few cents there! I had two HPs that only needed drive caddies and put the second hard drive in.
This is a shame that they provide the extra space in this Toshiba, and missing key components that can't simply be installed. Obviously on some custom configs you'd maybe have it with a second drive, pay more, but as this was store bought then it is what it is.
