Has anybody replaced a Toshiba hinge? (speaking about the models with 1 single hinge)

Just curious... I picked up a A215 S7422 back around Thanksgiving. Nice unit, especially since I just wanted something to surf the internet on from bed late at night (like I'm doing now) and I got quite a bit more with this package.

Anyway, I'm pretty anal about the way hinges work. I've always been, especially with cell phones, and now laptops.

I was just wondering, has anybody ever replaced one of these hinges? Does replacing these hinges by opening up the unit void the warranty? Where can I get replacement hinges? EVERYWHERE I look I cannot find ANYTHING for my model laptop. Is it because it's a new model (released in July) and EVERY model is still under warranty, therefore rendering it useless for vendors to pick up replacement parts since users can just yell at Toshiba to fix it? Or what?

I've seen dozens of how-to's with dual hinge setups. But I'd like to see a how-to (with a Toshiba, of course) with the big single hinge.

All the Toshibas that look like they only have one hinge in fact have two (2) hinges hidden under the LCD bezel.

That said to replace the hinges typically requires complete disassembly of the laptop--i.e. both the LCD bezel as well as the laptop's case.

So if you still have the factory warranty, do the sensible thing and have Toshiba do the hinge replacement as the chances of screwing the hinge replacement up if one's not truly certified anal retentive are scary high.

There is a sticky in the Toshiba thread to disassemble almost all Toshiba laptops, I think there is one for the A200/A205 hinge.

This laptop has 2 hinges. You will void your warranty if you attempt to replace hinges yourself. Some of the A215 require a pretty intensive tear down to get to the hinge bracket and rails.
