I just registered in this forum because of this single thread. It is highly informative and just what i needed . I am also embarking in this adventure as I am about to install Windows XP Professional SP2 on a new Toshiba Satellite A305D-S6848 right as I type this.
Actions taken thus far.:
-Deleted Partition with the cursed Vista
-Formatted the partition
-Finishing installing Windows XP
ps.: I would also like give out MAJOR thanks to Rianthas and everyone else who contributed to this thread - people like you who post these topics on the internet are the only true and reliable tech support that we users have. Keep doing what you do!

-Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus
-SM Bus Controller
-Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
No sweat, I am going to try Rianthas' drivers to get 'em fixed -
Success! Windows XP SP3 is installed on this laptop ! phew!
My word of advice: for whoever tries this out, follow the directions methodically. DON'T SKIP ANY STEPS or you will be fumbling not knowing what hit you.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS! -
You're welcome. That's why I did all this. Unfortunately, most of the Fn (function) hotkeys don't work currently due to lack of driver support from Toshiba. I've been on their *** about it and I'm hoping there'll be something put out eventually.
As a side note, the majority of the hardware in this laptop has pretty crappy driver support with Linux right now.
By the way, apparently a decent amount of people are downloading my archive. Just had this talk with my friend hosting the drivers.
-
Helo, J have a big problem with drivers. I instaled drivers from yours RAR. Now I get a Blue Screen. I think Wi-Fi driver is uncorect. Could you help me, I have that same model of notebook. J dont know what to do. J have XP with SP 3 ver PL, because I'm from Poland (sorry for my EN).
-
You get a BSOD ?
Can you still log into windows ?
If you can, look for a Minidump folder in the Windows directory. Upload all the .dmp files in it in zip format, -
The BSoD is probably due to the fact that the drivers in the archive are not Polish or your laptop has different hardware due to your location.
Regardless, I myself and several others have used the drivers in the archive I've linked to and have reported (sometimes ecstatic) success. -
Man, threads like this just crack me up.
"OMG I hate vista i hate vista, eeeeee!" *runs around like a headless chicken waving arms.
While you're at it, why don't you ask for some Win98 drivers and software, too? Seriously, stop wasting Toshiba's time. -
A coworker used some vendor points to get a A305-S6851 with Vista on it. Vista does not work with a shared drive on our server that is crucial to his employment position. The instructions are for the S6848, but from what I can tell, the 6851 is no different other than the hard drive size. I'm assuming these drivers will work. I am going to try it out either today or tomorrow. I will report back with my results. Thank you so much for putting the time and effort in to building the driver package and instructions.
-
At this point in time, drivers should be easily available for both XP and Vista. If you have a problem with this, you can go to hell. -
However, out of my own personal curiosity, what network drive (vendor/model) is your coworker's laptop having problems with? -
Hi! I'm trying to get the drivers for A305D S6848, so I already read the manual and try to download the zip ( http://landus.mytechzone.net/XP 20Drivers.zip) but I can't, maybe the links is broken or something, can you help me please?
the message on page was:
Error 404: NOT FOUND!
Your browser cannot find the document corresponding to the URL you typed in. -
The guy that owns MTZ took the drivers down because they were killing his bandwidth. If you have AIM, I can send the archive that way. Be warned that it'll take several hours.
If anyone knows somewhere on the internet I can dump this 500MB driver archive for free, let me know. -
In the meantime, I'll look into a bittorrent tracker and start seeding the archive if I find a tracker.
-
Thank you for all your help Rianthas. I searched for the drivers through your ReadMe file and found all except one. I wasn't able to find the face recognition driver but one of your posts said that it wasn't all that great anyways so I left it out. I have also included the battery saver driver that blue otter posted. Again thank you for you help if it wasn't for your thread
I would have been completely lost.
Below is a RapidShare link with the drivers. It will only be up for 12 days since my account expires on 1/29/09. If I renew it I'll repost it. Enjoy

Over the last day, I made a backup of my partition, formatted my laptop, and reinstalled XP Pro. This time around, I noticed an SMBus Controller flagged as an unknown device. After some poking around, I found a Dell installer for ATI south bridge drivers which worked after rebooting. I did notice that Windows picked up several other devices after loading the south bridge drivers for the SMBus, but it automatically installed the drivers for that those devices.
As far as finding a new host for the archive, I'm going to talk a few of the professors that run the networking lab at my college. I'm in the networking administrator major and am on good terms with all of the professors. I figure one of them might understand and agree to sacrifice bandwidth. If not, you'll all have to contact me to get the drivers. -
This limit is reached.]
Well can you please upload it again without using your account..
OR any one who have this rar file please upload, thanks in advance... -
have you tried the site in my sig for drivers? www.isd.toshiba.com.au
it might have your model there.... -
Getting the driver package out is really hard because of the bandwidth and the size requirements.
If someone knows a place that could host the archive, please speak up. -

Rapidshare is a horrible idea and I wouldn't waste the upload speed putting the drivers there.
With the bandwidth limits, the archive would be disabled in a matter of days, and then taken down off the site in a few weeks. I'm looking for something a bit more permanent. -
-
megaupload seems like a good idea

Rianthas, please help, how do I get in touch with you.
I registered just to get help with all the XP drivers as well.
PLEASE my Satellite just died and I installed XP.
Thanks for your help.

That works.
However, the Toshiba Value Added Package doesn't do anything. It appears to install, but in reality, it doesn't. The face recognition doesn't work well, either. -
Rianthas, I wld like the driver file you have . I most likely can dump it on my website for downloading as long as the bandwidth doesnt blow up.. Let me know soon as Im looking for drivers now.
-
The bandwidth WILL blow up. That's why my friend took it off his web server. He was getting over a GB each week in traffic JUST from the driver package.
