Any ideas would be really appreciated. I have an old Toshiba Laptop Satellite 2590 CDT which I have not used in years but I find myself needing it again (job change) for causal surfing. I have wireless at home. My question is: can I buy anything (eg a wireless card) to make the laptop wireless?

The specs are: Intel Celeron 400mhz.D, Hard Drive: 6 Gig. Memory: 128 meg
Modem: 56k, Ethernet Network Card Not included.

In all honestly, when I used this laptop last I had dial-up (which worked). The instruction manual makes no reference to wireless.

Thanks crinzema. Not sure. It has a slot that I used for a Ethernet Network Card. Would that be it? Please excuse my ignorance.

I'm assuming it doesn't have any USB ports right? That'd be one option if it did, or like crinzema posted, you can get cards that go in the PCMCIA slot, I've actually got one sittin right here that i've used with my older Sager for a few years, works good. Here's a link for what Best Buy has listed on their website for wireless cards, any of the connections look familiar?

You can get one off of ebay for 5-10 bucks.

You may have a USB port, but I would suggest going with a PCMCIA card anyways. If your computer has a USB port, it probably will not be USB 2.0. You can still plug in a USB 2.0 wireless adapter, but you'll get annoying messages from Windows that you're not getting optimum speed out of it and your connection speeds will only be about as fast as wireless b, even if you have a g router or better.

    Thanks everyone. My manual says:

"for pcmcia cards check the package to make sure they
conformto pcmcia 2.1 standard or later.

I should also note that it is using windows 98 v1. Is this a problem?

You should upgrade to Xp, or you might have some hardware compatibilities with your wireless, and I think that MS 98 won't be able to support wireless.
