Hi,
I just bought a new hard drive today for my toshiba satellite pro 6100. I took out the old hard drive, put in the new one and then powered on the notebook with a windows xp cd in the cd drive. I tried to install windows xp but it comes up with a message saying that it can't find a hard drive to install the operating system to, and it tells me to change this in the bios. So I shut down the computer, powered it back on and tried entering the bios, but when I push the hotkey to enter the bios, the red toshiba logo freezes on the screen. My notebook won't allow me to enter the bios. Am I pushing the wrong button? Or is there another to install windows on the new hard drive?
Thank you!
Jeff

It worked fine with the old drive? If so, are you positive you have the right type of hard drive? There are so many types on the market right now, that you might have gotten one with the wrong interface type. First off I would try the original again, if all works well, it would indicate either a defective or wrong type of HD. Hardrives are usually plug and play, you install it, power it up, the machine recognizes it and your off to the races.

Hello avs262
It can be:
1) master - slave problem, check HDD manual for jumper settings.
2) You use SATA HDD that need additional drivers during installation. You can refer this page: http://www.alexnolan.net/articles/installxpsata.htm
