Hello,
I recently purchased the r835-p56x and so far enjoying it very much.
However, I want to ask a simple question.
The amount of time from I press the power button to Windows is about 70 seconds for me. This is almost twice for some of the time I see from some other owners of the same notebook from the factory setting.
It takes about 30 seconds just to get to the log-in screen for Windows. Is this normal? I have updated to the recent bios version and disabled useless stuff in the startup. Is there any other way to speed up the boot time?
I know I can do a clean install, but I am a student and do not have the funds to purchase a new license and had a very bad experience from ISO's downloaded from the net.
Is there something I'm missing? I've went to through the Toshiba thread and haven't found any tips on how to speed up the computer on stock.
Any tips would be great. Thanks for your time!

I wish I could help but I've upgraded mine to an SSD and 8gb of ram, on mine from power button to Windows logon 15 secs, 5 more secs into Windows and opened browser, from sleep, it's 1-2 secs.
So your times are factory installed software only? Did you change any BIOS settings? -

Which anti-virus? Some packages can cause a lot of slow-down. Install Soluto which will show what is happening during the boot process and suggest which programs you can disable.

Thanks for your replies.
Yes, this is the time from factory settings.
I haven't tweaked any bios settings, maybe I could check there.
Also, I was able to invest in upgrading to 8gb ram as well but it did nothing to reduce boot time! I was hoping it'd at least shave off a couple of seconds.
As for my anti-virus, I uninstalled Norton and went with Microsoft Security Essentials. -
OK you say you have had a bad experience with ISOs off of the web. What do you mean by this. I upgraded a Vaio and a Toshiba from ISOs from the legal windows 7 download links post and it worked perfectly. I needed to see if everything would work correctly one was an upgrade from XP Pro and the other from Vista home. The Toshiba was the easiest one because Toshiba had a driver installer program that did the work for me.

I'm also using MSE for my antivirus. Could it be your wireless causing the slow boot up? If you are using a wireless connection, maybe try disabling it from running upon boot up?

Did you try installing Soluto? It will give the time it takes for each program to load during the boot process.
