just got a new Toshiba Satellite 351 notebook. About half the time when I try to write a data DVD with the included Sonic software, it fails. The error says something like, "make sure you use a clean DVD with no finger prints. If that doesn't work try a different brand of DVD."

These are TDK 4x DVDs that work with out any problem on my desktop. Is there a problem with my DVD drive, or is it the Sonic software?
    Any help would be appreciated.

It's possible it's the software that just sucks. I recently had an issue with Roxio's software. It helped me make 2 coasters using 2 perfectly good Maxell CDR's. As soon as I popped the blank media as requested, it spit it back out and said bad nedia...twice. I tried it on a different unit using different s/w and it worked fine.

If that doesn't solve the problem, it could be conflicting software or an OS related problem.

just got off the phone with toshiba support. apparently with the new mat****a dvd-ram drives you have to explicitly enable writing.

you right click on the drive in my computer, go to properties, recording, and check the box "enable cd writing". This seems to have fixed the problem.
