First of, hello and thank you for at least entering my post with the attempt of helping me out : )

    I have a Toshiba Satellite M645

Here is my problem. My built in mic works perfectly. When I plug in a headset into a line in mic jack it reads it as a playback listening device. I tried configuring anything I can think of in its settings under recording devices. It shows up as a recording device but I cant get it to work at all. When I plug it in a windows notification says windows can now play sounds from this device.

I checked and my drivers are up to date. thanks for any help.

Could the headset be defective? Do you have another computer you can try it on? IF not go to a big box store like best buy and test it there.
