It's my first laptop, and I have no idea where to begin. I'm not finding the instructions that came with it terribly helpful.

Is that what I should do first? Plug the powerpack into the laptop turned off, and then plug the powerpack into the cord that plugs into the wall?

Then when I plug it into the wall, (sorry --- this might be a really dumb question), do I simply just plug it in with the laptop lid closed? OR do I turn the laptop on, and then leave it plugged into the wall while it's on? Even if it's for the whole night?

Also, with this being the very first charge on the battery, how long do I leave this all plugged in? I've read several different time-lengths online. So how many hours should I leave it plugged in uninterruptedly? 24? or?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

p.s. Not sure this matters, but the model is Satellite L300 - 08R

p.p.s. I am thinking that it's like charging any other battery......and that the laptop should be turned off, and closed, and then all plugged into the socket. However - I'm just so darn scared that I might screw something up here.

    :)

    well.
    before you turn it on
(take everything out of the box carefully)
(check for damage, no scratches, open the laptop keyboard all ok?-press every button on the keyboard. dont turn the laptop on by pressing button that turn on the computer though.)

    1) plug the charger (power adapter) into the wall.

    2) it doesnt matter wheter you open/close the lid. lets just open the lid. plug the power adapter to the laptop.

    3) leave it charging for 24hour just to be safe...

    1. Put the battery into the laptop.
    2. Plug the laptop's power adapter into the notebook and the wall outlet.
    3. Leave the laptop plugged in until the battery light (next to the power light, hard drive light, AC light) turns to the color of the rest of those lights. For instance, my Toshiba has red system lights. When the battery is charging, the battery light will be orange. When it is fully charged, the light turns red, the same color as the rest of the lights. After that, you can turn the laptop on and begin normal usage.

When your battery runs out or you are using the laptop unplugged and you wish to plug it back in, you can simply just plug the laptop into its power adapter. You don't have to turn the laptop off or anything, and you can continue using it if the battery is charging.

    Thanks for the advice.

The two little lights on the front were green when I plugged it in, and they are still green. It has now been plugged in for 12 hours and I'm not sure whether to leave it there for another day? or wait for the light to change a different colour.

Yikes --- I'd really like to find the manual online for that specific model. Can't seem to find it though. Any ideas?

    It's the Toshiba Satellite L300 - 08R, PSLB0C-08R08C

    Thanks.

Now that I think about it.......is it possible that it comes with a totally charged battery?

I find it frustrating not having a physical paper manual that walks me through all of this. Someone told me that once it is up and running, there will be a prompt that I can click on to download the manual. Doesn't help me much at this point though.

Really appreciate the help. Once I have an actual manual, I won't be such a pain. (I promise) lol

The battery may be around half charged and should be fully charged within 2 or 3 hours if the computer is off.

You should be able to download the user guide from here. I can't see the exact model number, but any L300 ahould be similar.
