I am very angry. Toshiba is shipping my repaired laptop to the wrong address which is unoccupied. Toshiba says that they can't change the address and that only FedEx can. FedEx said that only the shipper can change the address. Toshiba still says that they can't change the address. Toshiba put restrictions on the shipment which will not let the receiver change the address or have it held at a FedEx location for pickup. It will have attempted delivery three times to an unoccupied house (until we move in next weekend, I originally had it shipped there because we were supposed to move on Saturday) 30 minutes away. It is supposed to be delivered on Tuesday.

I can't see how either Toshiba or FedEx could be held at fault in this. The package is being sent to the address that you gave them.
It is not their fault that you are not yet living there, and they are only following rules that each company has put in place previously.

Toshiba can be held at fault for not realizing that they themselves can change the delivery address. Toshiba said that they would change it if they could, but FedEx says that they can.

The funny thing is that it isn't my fault that I'm not living there.

I would also like to know to do in this situation which was in my topic title. Does the shipper's restrictions not allow me to take the door tag, have it held at a FedEx location, and then pick it up with my ID?

If FedEx allows you to pickup packages at their shipping facility, you can try it [I know UPS only allows this after the first failed attempt].

I would have to disagree with you. He called and requested a change in the address, that is no different that providing the initial address. I think Toshiba is the responsible and liable party. Since the OP did not contact Fedex regarding shipping details, Fedex is an agent of Toshiba.

I think Toshiba's products are great but their customer service really must improve if they are to make further inroads in the marketplace.

Here is something that no one has mentioned yet.
If he can pick it up at a FedEx store, he will have to show ID that would likely have to have that address included in it.
