I have a Tecra A3 106, the recovery dvd does everything and installs all the stuff without giving me the chance to create a partition on my disk..

I don't want to lose all the data everytime i format my pc...This is so ridiculous...

I'd like to create two partitions and keep the drive E: (e.g) for my personal files..I would like to format C: only and install Win there..

The thing is there are 2 options when I press C while booting up, the first one does what i explained above, the second one is said to be for Pc experts...

I really need help on this please..

    Thanks in advance

Get a package like partition magic to help you out.

Thanks Brian for the tip but, let's assume I created a partition with partition magic...Then the time comes and i have to re-install Win with recovery DVD...

Unfortunately It deletes all the partitons and also not giving me the chance to divide my drive...[ :(]

So what's the point of dividing it while the recovery dvd deletes everything?

I am sick with that...[ :(]

    Thanks anyways...

You can use Nero to make a boot CD. Then you can use fidsk.exe to make all kinds of partitions.

    What you can do is:

    1. Restore system with Recovery DVD
    2. Partition HDD to the way you like it
    3. Use Ghost (or a different disk imagaing s/w package) and make an image of your current system & partitions
    4. Backup your image onto a bootable DVD and viola, your own Restore DVD with all your partitions. Plus, this way will also allow you to make any changes to the OS load to give you a custom load.

As an alternative to Partition Magic, try this site

    http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/info/ntfsresize.html

I found the SystemRescueCD worked great, maybe a little more prone to error than Partition magic, but it's free too!

Eh, while I put that out there because I don't want people trying to blame me when it all goes wrong, I think it's a great product, and given that anyone re-installing the system can do the repartition straight after the system recovery has run, the amount of time/data loss is minimal, unless you need to repartition every five minutes (and if you are doing that, you are doing something wrong (at least in my book)).

I object to paying for it simply because it's software I use once every time I do a reinstall, and given that I've never ever had an issue with the linux repartitioner, I'll keep with that.
